Meleager’s Blue (MB) is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 36-38 (mostly 15-20, at least in Turkey) mm.

The scalloped hindwings are very distinctive feature in this species. The male upperside is bright powder blue, the females is bordered with dark brown and tends to be more heavily marked on the underside. Both sexes are large.

It is found in S. Europe, Turkey, Middle East (Syria, Lebanon), Iran, Caucasus and South Urals. The adult butterflies begin to emerge in June and are on the wing until the end of Sepmtember in one generation (i.e. univoltine). However, in Turkey there are two flight period: it flies in the months of June and July in Western parts, whereas in Eastern parts are on the wing in Jully and September.

The larval host-plants is Coronilla species. Eggs laid on leaves upon which larva feed. In hot, dry situations, plants heavily shaded by rocks or bushes are usually prefered for oviposition. Hibernates as an egg or small larva: attended by some ant species (such as Lasius, Formica and Tapinoma species). MB observed in grassy or bushy places, usually on limestone/base-rich substrates from 200 m to 1700 m.

This is just a lovely macro capture of the adorable butterfly with great blurry BG!
The sharpness and POV are at their best with greatly managed DOF. The diagonal position of the butterfly bring charm into the composition.
