Corum, a city of 170,000 inhabitants, in North - Central Turkey is the capital of Corum province. The province, which has a population of 600,000, lies on the edge of a fertile plain.

Modern Corum is well known for its hand spun and woven textiles, copper utensils and leather products. It is an important trading mart for the agricultural produce of the countryside. Chickpeas eaten roasted are its best-known product. The city became important due to its strategic location on the trade routes between Anatolia and the Black Sea region.

The region lies partly in the Anatolian and partly in the Black Sea coastal region. The climate is mainly Anatolian terrestrial, tempered by the mild Black Sea climate. The summers are therefore hot and dry and the winters very cold. May to October is the best time to visit the place.

Corum is 300 kms from Ankara in the west. There are frequent bus services between the two cities. Buses also ply frequently between Corum and Samsun 150km to the north East on the Black Sea coast. Mini buses ply daily between Corum and Alacahoyuk.

Corum is the best place to make a stop over if you are traveling from Ankara to the Black Sea coast and do some sightseeing
This region is of especial interest to history buffs. Spread over the two important regions of Anatolia and Black Sea, it is the meeting ground of important civilizations that grew up there. These civilizations have left their mark all over Anatolia. The historical sites of the region therefore mostly contain remains of these civilizations of antiquity. This is what gives the place its importance.

Traces of human settlements of the Neolithic, Paleolithic and Chalcolithic ages have been found. Later it was the center of one of the most well known ancient civilizations – the Hittites. Much of the remains of the region are from the Hittite period. Corum later was ruled by the Phrygians, Medes, Persians, Romans, Byzantines, Seljuks, Mongols and the Ottomans
Alacahoyuk is an important site of the Hittite era, 52km south west of Corum city in the Anatolian region. Here you will see the Hittite gateway flanked by two sphinxes and finished with bas-reliefs. It is a remarkable relic. The museum here exhibits many Hittite era artifacts and gold and bronze objects from the earlier Hattion Bronze age culture of the Corum region

Bogazkale or Hattusas, is a town in the central region of Corum and it has some fascinating remains of great antiquity. Hittite was known as the city of temples since it was the religious center of the Hittites. Here you will see the remarkable temple of the storm God Tesup and a fortress. The city has double walls surrounding it and three gates. These are the Royal gate, Lions gate and the tunnel gate called Yerkapi. Here you can get an idea of the imperial palace, Government buildings and Hittite artisanship.

Yazilikaya, 2km from Bogazkale, is another interesting ancient site. The name means “Inscribed Rock” and the rock monuments of the place, dating back to the 13th century, are fascinating. These rock monuments are arranged in two galleries with an open-air pantheon facing them in front. You will see fine and well-preserved reliefs of Hittite Gods and Godesses carved on its walls, made from local rocks. Of particular interest is the relief of a king in priestly robes.

From the more recent period is the beautifully constructed 13th century Ulu mosque and the 19th century watchtower built during the Seljuk era. They are both located in the environs of Corum city and well worth a look The Ulu mosque is considered a landmark of the city

Merhaba Gurkan

Beautiful look of these old houses
I adore the texture and details that only they get to have.
His class and vivacity, in the disordered of the painting.
A very different style but attraction.
Congratulations

Merhabalar Hemşerim;
Her kapı, her pencere, her detay ayrı bir konu olacak bir kompozisyonla bombardımana tutmuşsunuz bizi. Doyamadım izlemeye. Ne kadrajlar çıkarttım içinden. Kompozisyona karar verip kadrajlamanız çok güzel. Renk değerlerini de çok olumlu buldum
Şimdiki zamanın gençlerinin dili ile "Deli bi şiii"
Ellerinize sağlık. Çok güzel. Bu güzelliği bizlerle de paylaştığınız için teşekkürler.
Sevgi ve selamlarımla...

Hi Gurkan,
The weathered look of this building is what made this picture looks interesting plus your detailed description of the place. Good POV and well captured. I like the realism of this photo. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Selam Gürkan Hoca,

Merhabalar;

FAiK..
