Inside Adem’s house : posing for me… (NB : Adem was my young guide in his village)
... Photo taken in the high altitude Kurdish village near Eleskirt (Horasan, Agri) : there, all the various parts of a houses’s compound (living and sleeping room, kitchen, even cowshed and sometimes stable) are often under one roof, because of the extreme cold of the winter and to avoid having to walk in deep snow.
So, it is not unusual to see inside a house, cows or sheeps dreamily transiting in the corridor, on their way to or from the pastures : they are part of the family, warming people in the winter. This room was not far from the sitting room, nor from the kitchen (but separated).
Adem’s family is not that rich, so they don’t have so many sheeps and goats, he told me, but those ones are just the young ones who cannot yet follow the rest of the herd. The family has also 3 cows.
No flash was used here, I prefered the natural light, with the oblique ray of sun - but of course it was difficult to ask to all the animals to smile together for the photo, without moving ; some of them seemed to understand, though, while others looked at me, puzzled ; some seemed to say : « no - no… » |

the goats didn't stand still, nor they were smiling.... and your camera also moved... but all in all, the idea and the atmosphere are good. thanks
Hi, I think this is a really interesting subject but unfortunately the photo is not focussed too well. Regards, Jean
Hi Catherine, a fascinating subject for photo, but it is very unclear. Not sure if you had camera shake or what.

If not for the bluriness, this photo has very good composition and the light that goes through the opening at the top is could have been the anchor for the viewer's eyes. You must have moved when you took the photo.
