Dusky Meadow Brown (DMB) is a medium-sized butterfly with a wingspan of 40-48 mm.

This is one of the three widespread Meadow Browns in Europe and also Turkey. The Meadow Brown (MB), Maniola jurtina, is particularly common throughout most of Europe which may well mask the true distribution of this species. The Oriental Meadow Brown (OMB), Hyponephele lupina, and the DMB are actually rather dull yellow, grey and dark brown butterflies. By contrast, MB has bright orange markings and warm brown coloration. The upperside markings of DMB and OMB are fairly constant. The undersides of these two species are finely mottled grey and fairly uniform in colour density. Again MB differs by being very variable in all aspects and the underside has a distinct pale post discal band often with orange towards the east. This species and OMB differ from one another in size and it is smaller. The upperside markings are also indistinct and the male forewing upperside sex-brand is narrow, disrupted by two veins (#2 & #3). Comparing the sexeslycaon (DMB) is always much brighter and with extensive (although not always bright) yellowy orange markings. The much darker, grey brown of lupina (OMB) is quite distinct. The OMB also has more heavily scalloped hindwings compared to DMB and MB. In DMB the underside of the hindwing ground colour variable; generally greyish or greyish-brown, often whitish in limestone habitats.

DMB is found in Europe, Turkey, Israel, Lebanon to C Asia (Yenisey Valley) and Kyrgyzstan. The flight-period of the adult butterflies includes one generation (i.e. univoltine) and they are seen between the early of June and the late August.

The larval host-plants are some perennial tufted grasses, such as Festuca, Bromus ans Stipa species (families Poaceae and Graminaceae). Two or more species may be used in a given habitat. In hot conditions, adults often seek shade of bushes, overhanging rocks or tree roots on earthen banks. Hibernates (i.e. overwinters) as larvae. DMB observed in grassy or bushy places, usually amongst rocks from the sea level to 2100 m. In Turkey, It prefer relatively high elavations.

Superb macro capture, Bayram bhaijaan!

Wonderful clarity, great harmony of colors and an excellent POV, make this a one of the eye-catching shots of the day. The flower adds great beauty to the capture, however, the butterfly compliments the beauty with its charming and lovely body.
