Evros (fiume)

L'Evros (in bulgaro Марица /'maritsa/; in greco Έβρος; in turco Meriç) è un fiume della penisola balcanica che scorre in Bulgaria, Grecia e Turchia.

Il fiume nasce nel massiccio montuoso del Rila, in Bulgaria occidentale, e scorre con andamento O-SE tra i Balcani e i Rodopi, per poi attraversare la città di Filippopoli. Il fiume entra poi nella Tracia turca, dove bagna Adrianopoli, ed infine segna il confine turco-ellenico per sfociare, dopo un corso di 480 km, nel Mar Egeo non lontano da Alessandropoli. Essendo la navigazione impossibile, il fiume è usato per la produzione di energia elettrica e per l'irrigazione.
Il fiume dà il nome alla prefettura dell'Evros, in Grecia.

Maritsa

The Maritsa or Evros (Bulgarian: Марица, Ancient Greek: Ἕβρος (latinised as Hebrus), Modern Greek: Έβρος, Turkish: Meriç) is, with a length of 480 km, the longest river that runs solely in the interior of the Balkans. It has its origin in the Rila Mountains in Western Bulgaria, flowing southeast between the Balkan and Rhodope Mountains, past Plovdiv and Parvomay to Edirne, Turkey. A small section of the northern branch of the river runs entirely in Turkey; it was handed to Turkey in order to prevent the town of Edirne from facing a Greek bank. The rest of the river to the sea flows along the border, near Kastanies, from where it turns south to enter the Aegean Sea near Enez, where it forms a delta. The Tundzha is its chief tributary; the Arda is another one. The lower course of the Maritsa/Evros forms part of the Bulgarian-Greek border and most of the Greek-Turkish border. The upper Maritsa valley is a principal east-west route in Bulgaria. The unnavigable river is used for power production and irrigation.

The places that the river flows through include Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Dimitrovgrad and Svilengrad in Bulgaria, Edirne in Turkey and Kastanies, Pythio, Didymoteicho and Lavara in Greece. There are a number of bridges over the river, including the one at Svilengrad, the one west of Edirne in Turkey and GR-2 with the D110/E90 further south and as its border crossings.

In 1371, the river was the site of the Battle of Maritsa, also known as the battle of Chernomen, an Ottoman victory over the Serbs. Vukašin Mrnjavčević and Jovan Uglješa died in the battle.

La Maritsa ou Maritza[1] (en bulgare : Марица, translittération internationale Marica), ou l’Évros ou l’antique Hèbre (en grec moderne : Εβρος), ou Méritch (en turc : Meriç), est un fleuve de la péninsule balkanique arrosant la Bulgarie avant de servir de frontière entre la Grèce et la Turquie d'Europe.

Née dans les montagnes de Rila en Bulgarie occidentale, elle coule au sud-est entre les Balkans et les montagnes de Rhodope et traverse Plovdiv. Au sud d’Edirne, en Turquie, elle se partage momentanément en deux bras, ne constituant plus dans cette zone la frontière entre la Turquie et la Grèce. Elle s’oriente alors au Sud pour se jeter dans la mer Égée, après un cours long de 480 kilomètres, par un delta près d’Enez.

La haute vallée de la Maritsa est le principal itinéraire est-ouest en Bulgarie. Le fleuve n’est pas navigable, mais est employé pour la production d’énergie et l’irrigation.

You have captured a great scene!
The sharpness and POV are perfect. I like the position of the remaining dried stem of a tree on the lower-left corner, brings mood into the shot. The water reflects great blue colored sky and thereby bringing charm into the shot. Beautiful composition!
