Global Warming in Sepia
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Well, as I promised, here's the second shot of the same smoke.
As has been said, I saw this smoke many times from my window when I lived in Turkey. First thought it was a fire, but a fire doesn't last for long without growing.
The HPP I did is:
* adjust shadows/highlights;
* boost colours;
* sepia;
* shadows/highlights and boost colours again;
* frame (I have to admit, frames do improve pictures).
Unlike the previous shot, this one has tops of 15-16 storeyed buildings to emphasize the size of the smoke.
I should also add, that I took this picture from the fifth floor. The area where I lived is at the top of a hill (a shot from my balcony).
The smoke… Is it mixing with a cloud or is it the smoke itself turning at a right angle eastwards (i.e. to the left)?
Here's the key to the mystery (my Father gave it to me): there's no wind in the valley. As soon as the smoke reaches a certain height, wind grabs it and takes it away.
In my reply to Joana's critique I collected some hints on how to make good sepias. I hope you'll find them useful. |

Hi,
Congratulations for the job done here, pictures in Sepia are not so common and they are difficult to stay good because of the light. I am trying and trying but the results are never the better! Well done!

Hi Ilgiz,
Very dramatic portrayal. The sepia tone has worked well and hints at the impending crisis the earth can be faced with if global warming isn't stopped. Nicely composed too to have the sky and the city below.
