*****************************

The Green-underside Blue (GuB) is a small butterfly with a wingspan of 22-32 mm. The underside is a pale silvery blue with small black spots. Basal area is extensively blue or greenish. Male upperside black boarders broaden towards the forewing apex. Female brown with basal blue. Underside forewing has a curving row of spots that uniquely curves towards the anal angle. These spots are also large. The bBlack-eyed blue, Glaucopsyche melanops is quite similar to this species: The underside wing edges are unmarked in this species though, and the area near the body is usually suffused green.

The GuB is a species of Europe, northwest Africa (Algeria and Tunisia), W Asia (including Turkey) and Amur. Its flight time is usually April and May, although it is also reported in June and even July in its distribution area. The larval-host plants are several genera of Fabacea. Eggs laid on flowers upon which larvae feed. Larvae are usually greenish or dusky-pink, with brownish variegations, but sometimes pure, bright yellow if reared on similarly coloured flowers of Spartium junceum. All larvae tend towards a whitish colour prior to pupation. Larvae attended by ants (such as Lasius, Formica, etc). Hibernates as pupa.

Adult b-flies frequently visit flowers but also takes salts from mud, droppings and carrion. Recorded in grassy flowery places, often dry in the Mediterranean region. Often seen amongst scrub or woodland areas, from sea level to 1900 m.

Good Morning Bayram,

This is one of those deja vu moments!
I know I critiqued this already yet my critique is not present!!

This is a fine, well focussed shot where the textures and the colours are perfectly captured. I like the narrow dof which sets the butterfly against a pleasing bokeh.

Have a good day,
Bev :-)
