Fujairah Fort 1
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
This fort is on the top of the Al Bidyah Mosque, which is built of stone and Mudbricks, and coated in many layers of whitewashed plaster. Architecturally, Al Bidyah Mosque is somewhat unique in the Emirates.
Its distinctive structure and especially its roof, constructing of four pointed domes and supported by an internal pillar, is unusual for religious architecture in the region.
The prayer hall has small MIHRAB (Arch) and a simple MINBAR (chair) according to the radiocarbon analysis. The date of construction of this Mosque may be as early as 1446 AD.
Al Bidya Historic Mosque was rehabilitation and restoration works were carried out by Dubai Municipality in coordination with The Heritage & Archaeology Department of Fujairah in March 2003. |
