In the Past - my past.
Before leaving Abu Dhabi for Singapore, I walked around the city taking images to remember the place by - and this was one of those snaps.
I have mixed feelings about the UAE and Islam, but I shall not dwell on the negatives. The UAE is often mistakenly judged by Western standards. But I belive that to be grossly unfair.
This is a country that has risen from nothing in forty years. From a land of desert and Bedouins the UAE has advanced arguably faster than any nation in history. Fantastic skyscrapers, superb hotels, wonderful golf courses, vast man-made islands in The Gulf - the achievements of this small nation of less than 5 million people would take up more space than I have here.
I have many fond memories of the UAE. My two daughters were born there. I made many lasting friends of different cultures, nationalities and religions.
The UAE may be in my past, but it is a country with a great future. |
