I took a drive down the 'Beach Road' yesterday - feeling in the mood for a bit of photography... Here's one of the mosques near one of the open beaches.. Actually it's this same one but now with a little bit of a cloudy sky - I hope that means winter is on the way..

7 RAW photos bracketed and merged in HDR. Little bit of dodging and burning, cropped and a little straightening of the lens distortion. Final thing was to desaturate by 20%..

Hello David! Wonderful architecture, amazing tower, excellent lightness, superb colours. Splendid effect. Well done!

Hi David,
Wicked HDR, such interesting cloud coverage. Can certainly notice the skew from the wide-angle lens. The sun looks very well diffused here, there’s some very slight haloing around the steeple but it’s nothing major. The building seems to really suit the tone mapping process.

TFS,
Scott.

Hello David,

I love the details of this very beautiful, imposing mosque standing out against a sky which really complements it. The colours around the subdued sun fit in perfectly.
To me, this doesn't jump off the screen as an HDR shot; it just appears to have lovely, deeply etched details.
There is a slight haloing, nothing that interferes with the enjoyment of the shot.
For me, the only slightly disturbing aspect is the distortion which is apparent, perhaps because of the height of the building.

Have a good day, my friend,
Bev :-)

Salam David

Nice lighting control in this gray shot (seems a little bit desaturated in my monitor)
Good composition, amazing details and image quality as well

Hmm... I can see the result of the HDR on the building. Its great, an intense colour and even from this point I can see a lot of details! Thats very good!
But is the horizon tilded?? Now the building is lopsided..
And the mosque has more colours that the sky... the sky is not intense, but a little drained of colour...
Did you this on purpose???

The mosques is beautiful!

beautiful shot! so majestic... love your POV and background sun added to the photo.. sharpness is fantastic!well done... TFS

It looks like it's a little cooler in this shot.
The sky is my favorite thing in this shot ... looks like marble with the desaturation and the swirls of clouds.
Wishing for winter to be on it's way ... hmm, those are not words that ever come out of my mouth!! :)

Hi David

The light in the sky is good from HDR work but I find the lens distortion a little too much in this shot.
Good image but not up to your usual high standards I'm afraid.

Regards Derek

Hmmm, what happened here?
The overall image is quite fine, but I find there is a slight problem with perspective.

It seems tilted, like this building is about to fall on it side.

The vertical lines at the center of this image, should be the most upright. Otherwise it give the optical impression that the whole image is tilted. Check out the workshop. An image is worth a thousand words....)))) Cheers

Hi David,
Excellent HDR photo! You did it very naturally!
I like this low diffuse light and the light desaturation which works effectively for the rendering of atmosphere! The wide angle distortion effect is inavitable. I tried to correct it with a WS. Don't mind!
Excellent work! Annie

I like this and would love to see a close up of the spire on the top of the temple.

I too have troubles with perspective when I do my shots of old churches, it's something we have to live with, and I think some find it's easy to be critical for the sake of it.

I love the whispy clouds and intense sun.

Hi David,

Not sure if it is the road angles fooling my eyes or what. The mosque looks just a tad tilted? (Is it me?). Nonetheless, the effect of the sun is very dramatic in the photo and very fitting for a place of worship. The edges of the building itself seemm to glow. Great effect you have achieved. Desaturation works greatly in this shot. Winter? What are the high and low temps. in the winter in Dubai? I'm sure it's a refreshing change. Enjoy your week, Lisa

Hi David,
I almost have to hold me tight at my desk when looking at this picture."Is it leaning or not?" that's the question my friend! :-)
Besides that (I do have the feeling that the perspective distortion is quite disturbing) I do like the back light in this shot. It creates a typical almost mysterious mood.

Hi David!
i think winter is fast on its way. cloudy afternoons are getting better.
i know this mosque. good job on HDr. the halos are not so pronounced though its there. I love the distortion of ultra wides. My nikkor has more compared to sigma. but i dont mind. The more the better =D

David, 'Lotta work for a photograph, but very well done!! One of these days I'm going to take a shot at the HDR format. Looks interesting, very time consuming, but interesting. What's you point of view of WHY to use this?

Cheers, JoeGoff

Hi David

I work with a 28mm lens all the time, so I know the difficulty of lens barrel distortion, & the 3 way choice you have each time, on what to have level. Here is a good compromise. Good sharpness & moody lighting & colours. Tfs!
