The smidgen of snow we received this week reminds me of my second winter in Syria, when I rushed to my apartment to get my camera because nobody in Canada would have believed that it can snow in Damascus.

My mind’s eye recorded so many images that never made it into the camera: the girls in dark coats carrying bright coloured umbrellas which slowly grew little caps of white, the taxis that drove in from the mountains with snowmen on their roofs and hoods to prove how much snow had fallen up there, the twinkle of Christmas lights changing the white flakes to all the colours of the rainbow as they fell in the Christian quarter, the laughter of children muted by the short-lived blanket, the magic of Christmas in a land not far from where Jesus was born ... ... ...

This photo (scanned from a print) was taken in the garden just half a block from the apartment I rented a kilometre outside the walls of the old city.

Amazing to see the snow.

Beautiful capture.
Amazing to see snow specially where it does not belong :-)
TFS.

Hello Silke.
Concidered where it was taken, indeed a special memory it is.
I was working over 10 years in the middle East, the only snow, seen, was in November driving over the mountains to Tehran, Iran.
Greetings, Jan

Hi Silke,

I really like your photo!! You've captured the snow so well, that I feel like I was there too!

Hi Silke, fascinating and inusual view of Damasco under snow, very well done, ciao Silvio

Tremendous capture Silke. I took a photo last week with the snow falling out my front door just to experiment and had a similar effect but my background was not as beautiful as yours. Very nice presentation and excellent results with the scan.

Paul

Hello Silke,
This is a very nice photo with a nice mood with the snow flowing with the green of the leaves and grass. I like how you've used the fence and the trees to fram the bottom and the side.

Hello Silke

This is a nice point of vue and would look nice even without the snowflakes. I just can imagine how nice it must be in the summer with that empty field in front of the house.

Greetings, Sylvain

I believe it! Considering (can't remember what year) we had +20 C in February once, anything (of the opposite) is possible! Nice capture. The evidence is in the can.
Cheers
Otto

It looks like an old time photo, I wouldn't have believed it could snow there either. It almost looks like a painting, well done.

Mood that we will have soon! The first snow always please... except if we drive i believe :)
That white converging it let, give an impression of strong light!

beautifull picture

It's been so long since I lived in a snowy place that I had almost forgotten what it feels like. This image reminds me. I like the soft quality of the photo.

Love the way the shot was framed with the fence along the bottom and the window frame along the left side. This really give you sense that you are looking out side the window into a dreamy scene, with the building barely in view from the snow gently falling. Amazing, even more amazing that it was in the middle east.
