At the time of the Safavids during the 17th century it was actually overlooking a polo ground. The king used to sit and watch polo matches from the top. Later during the early 20th century there was in fact a pool in front of the building.
This is a picture showing one of many smaller rooms you need to go through to get to the top of this fantastic monument, although the ceiling height is tall, the entrance and exits are prety low, I guess this was remonder to get you ready be lower than the presence of the King (Shah of the time). In total there are six levels and a main terrace where the king used to spend his time during festivals and games. |
