You want honest opinion. I think the harsh weather as you call it really helps your picture as it seems to naturally enhance the focus on the sailor. I would be curious to see in color but overall, I like the portrait.
i like this composition as it is, i think the only technical problem i would have with this one, is the slight noise, you may notice near the sailors hands and even in the water. otherwise, i think it's a great photograph. great capture, journalistic style photography.
cheers

He looks very deep in thought, and as you say, "pensive." That's what I like most about the picture - the emotion projected, but I also enjoy the crispness of his uniform and the strength evident in his arms. Nice composition too! Another good job. :)

'ideally', the (eyes) face should have been the center of focus and sharp, but it works, the tones and comp are good, so, yes, well done, the emotion is right... (*_*)
Beautiful self-portrait Marija
The picture is wonderful, the look
of the sailor, thoughtful for the departure.
You captured the whole feeling of him.
Congratulations, I found wonderful.

Very nice portrait, Marija! You cropped it very tight on the left and on the top, so it might have been good to add a bit more. Also, the background is really hazing so I might have blurred it a bit more (not too much) to really get the focus on the sailor. But the background is important to give context to your picture.
Other than those nit-picky things, I think that you have captured a great pensive mood and its makes us wonder if he is really happy to sail away from home. His face is really expressive and I love his arms over the railing. I think that the B&W works well here as it adds additional mood to the shot. Well done!

You shouldn't ask any advice about the PP.
The shot itself is strong enough to speak for itself.
You caught the men's expression just right.
B/W was a good choice though!!!!
Congrats and groet,
Joop.

Good photo. I dont like too much blur and noise, I would liek to see him more clearly. I also don't think that thick frame is appropriate here, because it ruins horizontal framing of the photo. Leave it thin as side borders are. I would also add a bit sea on the right to put more focus on him, but that's just me.
good job again, TFS.

I like this type of "moment" photographs. One thing though....since black and white usually have a very sharp effect if correctly focused, i would give this photo a browm/faded/sepia kind of color tone. That way his T-shirt won't look so crispy as compared to his face. The intensity is good and you captured him in the right time. i think its a great shot.
Bravo for this work. This is so touching moment with this man and his thoughts that we can almost see.
Good composition and use of B&W is great.

Good shot Marija, I like the composition very much, good choice of B&w, you have captured a very special moment, it is like he is already missing whatever he just left behind. :( just one thing thoug.. it is just my person opinion, the crop on top of his head is a bit tight.. thanks for sharing.. :)

Hi Marija,
This is a great portrait. I think you cropped too tightly on the left and on the top. You have captured the man in a very reflective mood. Good one.

Hi Maria,
Sorry for coming here so late! I agree with most of what has been said. Mostly the crop shouldnt have been so tight on the top and the left. But otherwise you have captured the mood so well here. I did a small workshop I hope you do not mind.

I think a little bit soft on focus on the face. Perhaps the camera focused more on the arm. I like the pose of the sailor as he is in deep thinking. Perhaps a little more space above his head and to the left would be nice too. I love the slight blue tone you added to the image, and the frame is good. Well done.

Hi Marija,
Indeed he looks absorbed in his own thoughts.
bery nice image you made. Good comp. and good choice of B&W. focus could be a bit more on his face, but it works for me.
Nicely done

I think your PP is perfect. You've really captured the mood of the sailor and I think B&W helps to emphasize it so much more. A very powerful photo. I give it 2 thumbs up.
