The name Iris comes from the Greek word for Rainbow. It's my favourite bloom! Irises have three sets of petal-like parts. The lower set, called the Falls, flares out and hangs down. The three upper segments curve up into a dome. They are known as Standards. Three curved Style-branches cover the stamens in the centre. Irises may grow from 6 inches to over 6 feet tall. The leaves rise directly from rhizomes (underground stems).
Iris: Iridaceae. Also called "fleur-de-lis". Bloom April to July in temperate regions.

Nice capture, Linda. I carried iris in my wedding bouquet - they are my favorite too! I'd like to see a little more saturation of the color.

Hi Linda I love the purple and that bit of green that break the shades of the flower. Bravooo
