[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Caroline was one of our models for a dealer event in Canada last week. She is getting a masters degree in Architecture and just did this for fun. She had been a high level figure skater in Canada some years ago and had a natural way of carrying herself.

In taking portraits I tend to crop close and most of the time use an 85 mm lens. I think I like the closeness because is shows an intimacy that we don't usually feel in photographs further away.

The light here was natural, coming through a doorway. I have been playing with the flash and really surprised that it can look totally natural but when I can use available light I prefer it because I can use the burst mode and capture a better range of expressions.

Hi Roger:
beautiful face,beautiful shot.
very good work on this picture.
well done

best regards

Hi Roger,
I really like the crop in this shot. The natural light here is wonderful and the directional light is giving nice shadows. Her pose is perfect and her smile is beautiful. It does appear to be a bit soft but maybe it's my monitor. Anyway, a beautiful portrait.
Regards,
Kevin

Hi Roger,

Excellent portrait, beautifull face and smile.
Great model. good shot.
Best reagards.

Beautiful girl, Roger,
Great pose, wonderful smile and she looks very at ease with the camera. Aside from the softness that's been mentioned, it seemed to me as though there is a blue cast to the light. I have done a WS to try and see if it could be reduced. Let me know if I have overdone it. That's still a lovely portrait. Many thanks and kind regards,
Shelly

I like this one. The light is exquisite, the soft diffuse 'main' from the doorway, and the rim light from some other light source beyond combine so well.

Her smile is charming, the textures and details are well captured, and as far as I can see the sharpness on her eyes is exactly as it should be - good job for such a wide aperture! Sure, you could've added sharpening, but I don't think it's necessary in this shot.

She looks very relaxed and natural. I like the pose, it's fun! and the lighting, skin tones and focus are all great. TFS

Hi, Roger -
Amazing what a different feel she gives to the image with her hair loose instead of tied back. Great model with tons of charisma and appeal - a wonderful smile. I agree that a close crop gives a more intimate feel. I've never gotten the hang of using a flash at all - the natural light brings out her hair and skin tones so well against the dark background. Great work.

Hi Roger

Excellent shadow detail, with effective tight framing on the attractive female model. Perhaps I'd sharpen a little & burn in the strong highlights in the hair. Tfs!

Hi Roger,

Very nice portrait of Caroline. Her pose is natural and the lighting is excellent. There may be a bit of softness here and there, but I think it works well in this type of shot. Nice job.
