I went to my first Pow wow yesterday .. what a spectacle! We arrived to the sounds of drumming and singing (wailing) and saw that the dance area was full of hundreds of dancers moving in a circle - men, women and kids. The costumes are amazing ... so colorful and intricate.
I took over 400 shots, and probably discarded almost 350 of them ... really tough light, and so much movement .. hard to get good sharp shots. Also because this was in a huge arena, there are a lot of distractions .. billboards, advertising, flags, etc., so it was hard to position yourself so that the background was as uncluttered as possible. Nearly impossible.
Well, I did get a few that were okay ...this is the first that I'll post. This was pretty much as it came out of the camera, however I did clone out a few things around him.

Great to choose such an original and unusual POV!! Splendid colour!!

I find the f4.5 has been great to blur the BG to help the 'chief' stand out clearly.. Nice shot here Trudy - now where's the guy with the tomahawk??

Cheers
DAvid

Hi Trudy,
This is wonderful-- just loaded with color. I like your chosen POV leaving wonderment to the 'face' behind the headress. Well composed with great lighting and details. TFS Julie

Hi Trudy,
Interesting photo! The colours look like they have come out remarkably well. Great work with the sharpness too. The off-centered composition works nicely here, as does the shallow DOF. The lack of PP makes this even more intriguing. Well done.

TFS,
Scott.

Really phantastic detail and colors. Most impressive.Regards Otto.

Hi, Trudy, this is SUCH a great shot.
Wonderful clear color, mind boggling detail, great light and exposure. I love all the colors and patterns and the DOF is outstanding. That is REALLY cool. Bet it was a blast to attend. Many thanks and warmest wishes,
