Hello Trudy,
Your niece Carmen has a striking resemblance to Hana Mandlikova, a retired tennis pro. I had a double look. Although she appears shy, this is a portrait that she will cherish. The b&w conversion is good, it has fine tone and contrast. I am clueless when it comes to portrait, and so this looks like an accomplished work to me. Regards.

Hi Trudy,
Excellent portrait, nice use of the zoom to get this close. I think the B&W works really well here, creates a balanced exposure and doesn't cause the background leaves to steal any of the attention. Great idea with the simple thin frame too, it subtly blends with the lines on her coat. An all round great job :), well taken.
TFS,
Scott.
Hi Trudy,
Beautiful portrait of your niece!
Her expression a bit turned in herself while she observe the watches the goings-on around the campfire, is priceless!
You did a very good job with the B&W conversion. I am sure that Carmen will keep all the time this portrait in her family album and she will show it proudly at her parents and friends!
Bravo! Annie

Hi, Trudy -
Very natural looking candid portrait. The b&w format was a good choice. You managed the lighting well - her face is perfectly exposed and nicely contrasted against her dark clothes and the dark-ish background. She is well placed in the frame with space in the direction that her head is turned. Very nicely done.

A nice low key style of portrait Trudy - the B&W an excellent choice!! Nice compo - she has space to 'look' into rather than being crammed against the edge of the frame..
Nice diffused light too..
Good job

Hi Trudy
I like the black and white tones here, good facial expression looking away from the camera. The contrast not overpowering and the light looks good also.
Well done

Hi Trudy
A good b&w portrait, with no appreciable oe or ue. Superb sharpness & dof, & well framed & composed. The soft, diffused light works well in this angled portrait. Tfs!

Trudy,
This is a great portrait. We can see that she is concentrated on something else, besides the photo. I guess she also like to take pictures, once she has a camera on her.
B&W indeed worked well here.
Congratulations,
Wellington

Hi Trudy,
The "unaware" type portrait works best IMO. When people pose for photos, it often doesn't look natural. This is a really well composed candid portrait and the conversion to B&W suits it well. I'm sure that Carmen loved it!
Warm regards,
Werner
