The tugs André H. and Avantage are assisting the MV Lake Ontario to sail from section B-5.

On this photo, it seems at the first glance, the tug Avantage is pulling her bow, while the tug André H. is pushing her stern. In fact, both tugs are pulling her. Look closely at the water movement around the tug André H. You can see she is moving astern, and the tug is fastened to the ship. Why ? if the vessel is required to turn right ?

It is to prevent the stern to move around the turning axle of the ship, or if you prefer to keep the stern at the same place while the bow is swinging. On the port side, the section B-4 is present, so the pilots did not want to have the stern to get closer to it.

Image uncropped. Indeed it was a warm and foggy mnorning. The viisbility was increasing as the sun was gradually rising.

As per suggestion received from NINIX , I added a WS with a wider view of the operation. Hope you will like these.

Cheers!
Robert

Hi Robert, it is always nice to see the work going on in the harbours. Love the chunks of ice !

Great crisp image.

Marleen
sorry out of greens today

He Robert,

Great pictures you shoot! Is there any time left to do a job?
This one looks realy cold with the ice and the well working contrast red/blue.
Maybe you should let some more space towards the action direction on the right and the top. Don't crop too tight.

Thanks,

Hendrik

it's good to be 'right in there', a superb take, thanx, M, (*_*)

Good detailed action shot Mr Calve !
Colors .. sharpness.. details .. all tip top !
I ones did read that larger ships like this one here all have a damaged '' skin'' with pushing marks done by this system.. and it had boats sink because of that.. what do you know about this subject ?
Tell uncle John in dure time .. ok ? Can you buy for me an Ice cream today for the sweet charming Martine?

Thank goodness he days of a 24/36 films are over! 150 shots, hurrah!
This is so interesting Robert, the colours hit me first, all the blues on the right - water, sky, boats, and then the red of the ship is such a good contrast! And look at the icy water...
You know you have taught me such a different way of life. I live right on the water, and fairly close to the port of Auckland, and my father worked with boats, but this cold and ice is so strange for me. Thank you for introducing me to this diffference!
Janice

Roll on Canadian summer I say Robert my toes are tingling now! Great shot once again with the usual bright colours and interesting notes. I must say that the workshop version really does have that something extra about it. TFS
