[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note

This past summer, i saw that work on a wall. One between so many. But the color and the style are very different of what i see habitually. I admit i'm not shure if there is a message... But that style white on grey was pleasing me!

Tiens,ça manque à ma culture! Je ne connais pas ces graffitis-là ! Très bon cadrage! Cette photo couleur en noir et blanc et gris est des plus intéressantes! Michel

Salut Were wolf

It looks like a film negative. Excellent graphism, & an effective minimalist tonal range. Bon travail!

This is 'stencil' grafitti - much cruder and quicker but Attila Torok is the expert on this and I'll make sure that he sees it.
You're right, though. The colour combination is quite cool.
What is the message here? Why did someone do this? It is not a doodle and it has a reason.

Hey Werewolf,

This is one nice catch! Just look at the rudimentary lines of the stencil: no single white patch REALLY resembles any body part or anything else at all... But then if you take a look at the HOLE spray piece... WOW! I swear to God I can see the precautious LOOK on the face of the cop on the right... and he doesn't even have ANY facial features! This stencil was based on a very well captured photo or comic frame and it is very well done. Good job with the photography part, Werewolf. A bit of context next time, even in workshop, maybe?

Interesting that it comes with a spray swirl...

It most certanily goes to my Stencils theme. It'll be a gem. Good catch!

PS: Just came back after I saw Kit's comment. One stencil artist has famously said in an interview "People need to cut more stencils and speak less crap." That was an answer to a question about whether street art is in or out... I simply think that a stencil rendering of a photo or other image is a creative process similar to what we do in PP on our own shot. Today, many stencils are done by tweeking levels on photos. Then you separate the colors, laminate the prints, cut the stencils... Thinking in terms of negative space all the time: what you discard from the cardboard will actually be the image... That's the sit-home-and-be-creative fun that we can all understand based on our own PP work.

Then comes the adrenaline rush of picking up the adhesive tape and spray can and hitting the town... spraying your piece onto a nice surface... or several nice surfaces... Do you REALLY need to have a message?

Cops are not the best friends of street artists because they get paid by the State that earns a lot from real (NB etymology: 'royal!') estate through dues and taxes, which is why it tends to protect real estate owners' rights and not street artists' self expression rights, even though a nice stencil looks more intellectually envigorating than a badly maintained or merely poorly designed/built concrete slab building. Look at the body language of the cops through the eyes of someone always on the look-out for cops in uniform and for cops in plain clothes...

Disclaimer: Please note that I am not indiscriminately endorsing street art and I am especially not against state power or the role played by the police -- I am just trying to see this stencil and others through the eyes of the guy who put it up there so nicely.

Heyee, this is something new to me, but this surely is artistic! i learn art myself in post-U college and i appreciate art very well, thanks for sharing! and thanks for attila's comments to, the information suffices!

Regards,
TT
