[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
We had one heck of a lightning storm last night. Since it was too loud to sleep, I thought I'd get up and try to take a couple shots. Boy, I'm glad I did!

I used a 30-second exposure, but often closed the shutter if a particulary good flash appeared, to avoid "Washing it out" with the sheet lightning. This was shot near the beginning of the storm, so the window was just getting wet. I thought the droplets added something, but I have cleaner shots later after the window was wet, like this one posted on TrekNature. (I considered moving my camera closer to the window, too, but never did.)

This was filtered with Noiseware (twice), cropped, rotated a bit, I cloned some dirt off the window, I adjusted the curves, sharpened, resized, and framed.

If you want to try messing with the image I will post an earlier version with less PP as a workshop. Cheers, all!

Great shot Mike, brilliant timing, I have never managed to catch any decent shots of lightening yet.
Thanks for sharing.
Michael.

Very nicely captured, Mike. It was quite a storm indeed and you were there at the right moment to capture this wonderful lightning. I think you did great with your PP to truly enhance this picture and create a very amazing one. Excellent!

Extreme! I'm glad you take a shot Mike! That's so close with your 18-55 lens. I wonder how is the lightning form without windows. Anyway it's a great moment to share! Thanks!

I guess this is every photographer's dream - to capture a lightning striking. You did really well here, next thing you know you'll be hoping for lightning storms !

sorry my greens are all out today

Wow, I'm impressed with your lightning shots Mike. They are great, especially the one over on TN - I loved the sky colour in that one.
I've never tried to take a shot during a storm, but it would be good to try one day. Nature at it's wildest! Well done.
Cheers Joan

WOW! Mike, this is very interesting and impressive! You were so lucky looking at it and photographing it! Great in colour and sharpness! Nice contrast and POV!
Well done!

Great shot with an unexpected result. I like the shattered look of the lightning. For something completely different, check out what i did with your original

Wow! Lightning is one of my favorite things! This is such a great shot, so timely! I really like how "white" the lightning is compared with the red glow of the street lights! TFS.

Hi Mike,
The effect of the water drops on the window gives this photo a really intersting effect. I first was surprised about the flash but the note explained the strange looking pattern. Good job on the exposure and great idea to take the opportunity to its fullest advantage.

Niek
