[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My niece Laurence, a wonderful lively 4½ year old that loves to have her photo taken. She is a natural one in front of the camera, to my great pleasure.

As requested by many here is the "how to" process for that pic

It really helps to make a good picture with such a cute kid.
The problem with the original pic was that it was taken "on the fly" in my mother's kitchen, no time for any set up such as removing the kitchen appliances behind Laurence's head so the final result wasn't satisfactory to me. On top of that the picture was quite yellow because of the incandescent light. So what I did first was to desaturate to some point, adjusted the red and yellow level (not global) . Then I picked-up the brownish color. I added a layer then with Alt-Backspace I filled this layer with the color I had picked. And finally with the eraser set at about 10/10 I gradually brushed off the brownish layer on Laurence's face, to that her face comes out from behind this foggy layer. That's all. As an alternative method I could have duplicated the background layer on which I would have applied a glaussian blurr and erase it gradually in the same way I did with this colored layer. This would have produced a blurred background instead of this uniform color around her head.

Salut Nina,
J'aime bien ce très beau portrait de ta petite nièce avec ces superbes yeux. Le flous autour d'elle donne une excellent composition et met tout l'emphase sur elle.
Très bien réussi.

Cute pose, nice close cropping, and I love the effect you did in PP! This is a portrait that any mother would be proud to hang on her wall. Thanks for sharing! I especially appreciate the "how-to" in your note.

Bonsoir Nina,

Hi Nina

It's a stunning portrait, Nina. And your PP work is very original and very efficient. Gaussian blur would work too, but it generally leaves a kind of halo around the parts you want to keep sharp by erasing them, which is caused by the blurring process.
Beautiful, very photogenic girl and an excellent picture for the family album! Well done. TFS
