Bear watching is a favourite tourist activity when in Tofino, British Columbia, Canada. This was taken early in the evening on a beautiful but cold day. The scenery was spectacular and the boat trip on Zodiac boats was worth the money alone. In this shot we are approaching a salmon farm ( I understand that despite being in the Pacific Ocean these farms use Atlantic Salmon for farming becuse they adapt to the conditions better).
The boats power to secluded bays and then drift in quietly to see bears beachcombing for crabs. We were lucky enough to see a large Blackbear in its natural environment but I could not help but feel as if I was intruding a little. The problem is that unless we intrude enough to appreciate the animals and the environment we cannot fully apprecite the need to preserve but when we venture into these areas we contribute to the problem.
My conclusion is that life would be poorer for not being able to see some of the beautiful things around us but we should do it as responsibly as possible.
