The Cave and Basin National Historic Site of Canada commemorates the birthplace of Canada's National Park system, which began here in 1885. The growth and development of Canada's national parks are celebrated in interactive displays and exhibits. Naturally occurring, warm mineral springs can be found inside the cave, and outside in an emerald coloured basin. The springs are home to a very special snail, found nowhere else in the world, although I couldn't see one in the pool.
The smell this pool puts off is somewhat unpleasant. Why does it smell? When the water becomes heated, it is able to dissolve minerals from the surrounding rock. Pyrite and gypsum are two common sulphur-bearing minerals dissolved in Banff's hot springs. The rotten egg odour (hydrogen sulphide) is produced when these dissolved minerals are broken down by sulphate-reducing bacteria in the water, before it comes to the surface. |

I know the smell, here we have some mineral springs that have it too ;) Lucky for us that computers still don't have "smell displays". As for the visual part, the waters have an amazing color that you captured well.

Nice crystal clear water, wish we were there now! The colors are great and you can see the bottom so well you can almost make out different shapes. Well done.
