When I was driving in the area of Markham, a town in Toronto, suddenly noticed the flashing golden domes of this building. The color and structure of the building caught my eyes, and went close to the place.

And sad, this premises was closed, and the property is under legal process. When I inquired further, this is the story I came to know from neighbors nearby in this place.

This is a Slovakian Catholic Church, constructed by some Romanian man after the World War II, somewhere in 1946-1948. Until he was alive this particular church was open for services. This person died some 9 years ago, and the fights are going on for the custody of this church and property. Hence the complete premises is closed and under barb wires. Sad, because from the distance this church architecture looks so beautiful, and have some colorful murals too.

This picture I tried to take using zoom lens from atleast half a mile distance in very cloudy, gloomy weather.

Dear TL friends, for me it is very sad to see any worship place closed like this and people fighting over the custody. And still, hope you'll enjoy the structure and architecture of this monument.

Nice work Vandana. The cathedral was well captured. The inclusion of the grasses works well too. One minor thing though. There seem to be too much empty space on the upper left. Maybe burning a bit the background can bring out the clouds and add more gloominess to the photo. TFS.

Hello Vandana,
This is a nice photo of this church I like the composition with the diagonal in it. My only nit pick is I think you have increase a little bit too much the saturation or the light in your PP work since the sky and the Golden top of towers are a little bit burned. Otherwise this is very nice with the grass and this superb architecture.
Greetings.
Luc

It is a very beautiful image, Vandana! The composition is superb. I particularly like the inclusion of the shrubs in the foreground. And coupled with the note on the status of the Church, this image becomes very powerful. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Vandana
Lovely to see the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in your gallery too.
I ws hoping that it would be open again for Christmas, but it seems that the foolish fighting continues. One can still get close to the church, but not quite legally. It is a very sad story indeed.
Thanks for sharing it again

This is unbeleivable that we have such architectural treasures here in Ontario! This picture is very well composed! Beautiful light and details and the white sky adds more definition to the picture! Well done! Thanks for sharing this with us!

Hello Vandana, this building is really something, and you photographed it so well!

Good off-centered composition, and low pov with the grass on the bottom framing it.

Very nice colours and great sharpness.

Take care and Happy New Year again :)

Hello Vandana,
great shot, I love the color and the contrasing light BG. Great POV and the sharpness is excellent. Very well composed shot.

Very nice composition, Vandana! Your low POV really emphasizes the majesty of this church, and the dreary colours tell a story. You should fix the blue area in the upper right corner. Thanks for sharing; I learned something today!

Hi Vandana,

This is a classic composition, very well done! The colors and details are very good. Inclusion of the grasses on the foreground adds a nice layer. Thanks for sharing.

Wooo Vandana

Excellent shot, nice composition, sharpness and colouration! Very good details. Well captured. It is very sad to hear about the custody fight, I suppose is all about the money not the morals these people are after. Thanks for sharing

Hi Vandana,
What a wonderful architecture and your POV is perfect for showing it! Against the white sky the colors and details have still more precision. I like contrast with the delicate faded flowers in foreground and the splendour of this church. I agree with you, it's a pity that it is abandoned. Bravo and thank you for sharing! Annie

Hello Vandana, great view of this splendid church, wonderful colors, great composition, very well done, ciao Silvio

That church is wonderfull i agree with you! Wow! With the field who give the impression she emerge from nowhere... It's great!
The facade seems to have a spectacular representation!

it is a beautiful building with a very sad story, makes you wonder who the people want to worship there? from the fighting it sounds like the buidling...

Hello Vandana,
This is superb. I didn't know that we have this kind of architecture here in Canada ;) I like this exposure, colors, details, POV and composition. Well done and this white sky makes the church stands out more! Well seen! Thanks,
Claudine

Sharp eye, steady hand and a good camera, time to say a job well done

Well captured - your zoom served you well. It's sharp and well metered, composition is good.
I think the gloom of the day and the overgrown grass at the base of the church underline the context of your note well.
Thank you for sharing your journeys with us!

Hi Vandana,

A very touching note- and I must agree with you whole-heartedly, custody? over a place of worship? total ridicule! I've always been fascinated by religion, whether it's the discussion, the research, the devotion- the whole precarious form of religion is utterly astonishing. In this image you caught many faces to religion and the work that goes into being 'faithful'. I wont dwell on that because I could go on to write a book then! :P

This image has amazing qaulity within it, if you hadn't mentioned bad weather I wouldn't have even guessed it. The white light (which could seem over-exposed) is fantastic, because it idolizes every curve of that building, every perfect line and those fantastic/rich colours. But the colours do seem a little cold, but I think that's another aspect in the shot that 'makes' it what it is. Finally, the forefront of the image, the little field- wow, amazing- the mood it conveys, inexplicable.

Fantastic image, and a perfect note. I applaud you!

Biance.

Hello Vandana,
It is a beautiful piece of architecture!
So well captured with great sharpness in all details, the colours are vivid in spite of something looking like a dull day...
WEll composed presentation!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Absolutely fabulous!

Your composition and crop are perfect. You left just enough ground. The white sky works very well in this mystic image.

Cheers!

Ben.

Hi Vandana. The gloomy day and teh lack of colour in the sky has added even more sadness I feel, Well composed and lovely deeper colours with very good detail on the Church itself. TFS,
