Bowl & Chopsticks - Curves & Lines

[Setting]
- I used a desk lamp pointed at some pale curtains to reflect its light and create the shadow.
- Also used the built-in flash of the camera but diffused it to get a softer light.

[PS - Tech Talk]
- Resized to 25% using a Bicubic Sharper resample.
- Croppity-Crop.

B&W conversion:
- Converted to Lab Color mode.
- Highlighted the Lightness Channel.
- Converted back to Grayscale mode.
- Selected the Gray Channel.
- Inversed it.
- Converted to RGB color mode.
- Created a Solid Color adjustment layer by choosing a color for the tonal range seen here.
- Changed that layer blending mode to multiply
- Created a Curves adjustment layer and slightly tweeked the RGB channel.

Finishing it up:
- Duplicated the layer.
- Used Select>Color Range>Highlights
- Used Filter>Other>High Pass on that at 0.5
- Changed the blending mode of that layer to overlay.
- Expanded the picture with Image>Canvas Size and framed it.
- Saved for web.

Hey, you're "back home" again ?
Nice pic you've brought with you.
I like the colour and the composition, also
the tiny chinese details, nice one, Gabriel.

Great to see you back Gabriel. I have missed your postings :). Hope all is well with you. You make me long for sushi now...again...have had it every other day now hehe. You did a great work as always Gabriel.

This is super, Gabreil. I ate at an Oriental Restaurant for lunch today, so this brought back delicious memories! Your composition is done with excellent use of the lighting and the oriental figures on the chopsticks add that special touch and makes it a perfect photo.... good to see you back. ...:O)

Bravo ! Une belle photo pour un retour ...
Sylvie

This is nice Gabriel, it seems like the bowl was made for chop sticks. The chop sticks in your shot are nice and engraved.

"Croppity-Crop". ;o) That sums up one of the most important PP tasks very nice. Me like, me gonna steal that.
Does this bicubic algorithm downsize in one step Gabe ? I have software to enlarge pictures without much quality loss, but in downsizing it is not that good I think...
I like the Croppity-Crop you did here, lines & curves are excellent. Even the place-mate is authentic ;o) TFS, TFS². FAF :(.

Very nice composition, with a good harmony of colors. But may be it would have been better to have the stiks displayed diagonally.

Merci pour cette tranquillité.

I love the simplicity of this shot Gab. Nice to see you back, we greatly missed you!

Great composition. Great repitition of lines, and the smoothness of the plate, broken up by the chopsticks. The lighting is just right too, not too much, but enough to enhance all the details. Once again, great work! **I added it to my fav's. :)

Welcome back Gabriel, and you surprise us with the fantastic photo. I ate Japanese food last week, with chopsticks ... honest. I like the composition with only part of the plate visible. Very creative set up. The lighting is excellent. Your detailed instructions for post processing will be very useful. I'd like to try this technique one day. Nice to see you around again.

This is a very stylish image. Simple and effective.

Hey Gab, I just noticed you've deleted a bunch of your pics. May I ask why?

Outstanding image.

All the best.

Great graphical effect and very elegant compo,I think it's due to the soft gray tone, that for me is an almost magical colour.
I lot it with great pleasure.
Bravo.
Edie
