Another image taken lat Saturday. One of the last indeed. Roughly an hour passed since the arrival of the icebreaker Pierre Radisson and this one, where the MV Daviken is heading now straight out of the harbour basin. The jetty is just left of the tug André H. ( on the left side ) . one container ship coming from Montreal is also proceeding downbound toward the sea.

Vessel is on long Time Charter by Fednav International . The Daviken was built in Croatia, back in 1987 as the Ship's particulars are indicating.

Here you may note two sources of smoke from the Daviken. One obviously is fom the main funnel. The second lower on the starboard , is the bow thruster generator in function when the ship is manoeuvring in port.

What is a bow thruster? basically a small transverse propeller that can be operated in both directions to swing the vessel's bow more rapidly and without external assistance. In winter time, it is howver not enough due to the icy waters.

Technically. Image uncropped. Very minor level adjustments, resized and frame. I kept on purpose the icy waters in the foreground.

Still on duty until Monday AM. So I will reply to critiques and comments in a couple of days.

Thanks a lot in the meantime for your visit and kind critiques received on this serie.

Cheers!
Robert

Hi Robert,
Un autre magnifique photo de bateau . J'aime particulièrement le contraste entre les couleurs éclatante du Daviken et du reste de la photo . Vos notes sont également toujours intéressantes et nous en apprennent beaucoup.
Merci de nous faire partager .

Hi Robert,

These winter scenes are so beautiful, you always get the best POV and compose your photo very nicely. This one also has a very nice and warm lighting, great sharpness and detail. Your job is great in the respect that, you get the opportunity to get shot photos

WOW! What a busy port you have Robert, and it is still useable in all this ice. And the dirty coloured water and ice looks like a chocolate slushy...

Hi Rob,

Things look rather busy out there! Another great photo from the series. I really like how you placed the "Viken" in the upper third of the photo!

Well seen & composed

wow, this is really impressive!
composition with large part of water and ice in foreground and the size of the ship makes it really impressive!
have a feeling that VIKEN is really moving, so the whole pic is moving a bit... LOL

well done! and thanks for sharing!

Wow...Robert, I misted quite some posting from you, and I shouldn't do that. Like thgis is a perfect capture of the departure of this nice vessel in the icy waters. OK it's not going that fast, but it gives you the opppertunity to shoot this kind of magnificent pictures. I'm glad you are in that position so I can enjoy is as well but I think experience in 'real life' must be stunning. Maybe one time...I keep on dreaming :)
Hans

:) Later...

Hi Robert. I love this composition. An unusual but effective angle of this vessel pushing past all that ice, something we don't see in Australia at all. Good cropping to make the icy waters a key element and very sharp.TFS. Murray.

wow....
wonderful focus and colours,
another clear and clean portrait with very good POV and DOV.
