Yellow on Black

An experiment with my brand new 100m f/2.8 macro lens. After shooting very close to the flowers I pulled back for some wider shots with the lens wide open. I was happy with this shot but wanted to add something to represent the kind of power these tulips have had for me: We currently have them outside where they are the only colour in our bleak front yard. To create that sense I duplicated the layer in CS2 and applied a light gausian blur. I then played with blending modes; at first I had thought to use screen for a typical "bloom" effect on these blooms or else I planned to use overlay. However, linear light proved to be the real winner. I blew out some yellow areas but I like the 'over the top' feel that was created there.
