So there I was, loading up a floatplane to head back to Fort Frances, Ontario, feeling sad that it was the end of my great fishing trip. I was standing on the dock at our wilderness lodge, taking in the peace and quiet for a last few precious moments, when a humble native appeared to say goodbye.

This little guy had been hanging around the docks all week, and our bustling about getting everything packed up must have caught his attention. I sat down on the dock's edge and caught a lucky macro shot of his prehistoric gaze, before he slipped back beneath the surface and retired to a nearby field of lily pads.

So long, fella. I'll be back to see you again someday.

I love it, nice capture. Nothing beats being there to capture rare moments like these. I love to watch turtles and frogs and things. We have a river that runs through our property and we see snakes and frogs and beaver and turtles sometimes too.

how big was this guy...from the shot it looks like a snapper and i know they can get pretty big...anyways cool capture...but that dark spot in the upper left corner is distracting to me...takes away from the face...nothing a lil of your PS magic counldnt take care of i am sure...peace***

ps...hopefully you will be in town in the beginning of august during my month long break...i found a cool old railroad bridge and great bike trail near my house in bloomington that we should check out...pps...i will be going to las vegas with laura from august 26-31...so i think my camera will finally get some use during that month...let me know...peace again***

You know, looking at this shot closer up, or bigger, makes a lot more sense, it's unfortunate that the thumbnail format in the main gallery makes this shot look weaker as a thumbnail. Very sharp and crisp, excellent capture, I am glad you were rewarded with that quiet "goodbye" from this turtle, hehe. Really excellent contrasts and tones, and the clarity on the turtle's head and body underwater is excellent. The inclusion of that sliver of wood at the bottom edge is good because it balances with the head of the turtle, in my opinion. Great natural tones and colors here, the only thing that's bothering me is that dark spot that atarisphoto was mentioning, it is pretty distracting. Otherwise a wonderful shot. I think I can see you in the reflection of the turtle's left eye, hehe ;) Thanks for sharing!
