Good evening ,

I am officially off duty for the long Labor Day weekend. Pretty happy indeed after a rather busy week.Among the numerous ships I boarded this week, it was a real pleasure to board again the MV Olympic Melody. The ship is part of the Onassis Group.

ONASSIS Aristotelis son of Socrates and Penelope.

Born in Smyrna in1906.

He was one of the biggest and most well-known independent ship owners in the world, and more specifically in the field of oil tankers. In 1956, he established the Olympic Airways airline, which he transferred to the Greek State in 1975, after having developed it into a private company serving the five continents.

In 1946, he married Athina Stavrou Livanou with whom he had two children, Alexander, born in 1948 and killed in an air crash in 1973 in Athens, and Christina, born in 1950, who passed away in 1988 in Buenos Aires.

In 1963, he acquired the little barren island of Skorpios, which he later made his summer vacation.

In 1968, he married Jacqueline Bouvier, widow of the assassinated President of the United States J. F. Kennedy.

On March 15th 1975, he passed away in Paris. He was buried in the island of Skorpios where Alexander had been buried two years before. Christina is buried in the same island.

A small tribute to my estimated hellenic friends on TL , and crews working on ships away from their homes.

To learn what is going on actually in Greece, please visit the following Website . Gallery of Images: The Fire and After the Fire .

A dark image indeed suiting well the intended message and mood. If the Master , crew and officers were mostly out of trouble as most of them are living on Chios Island, they do have many friends and relatives suffering from these tragic events. I wish all TL Hellenic members strenght and courage to go through these hard times.

Like the Californian bush fires a few years ago , again the human factor seems to be the origin of this tragedy. Basically it is another man made tragedy, not natural at all. The importance, and frequency of these tragedies is increasing as the population is growing rapidly on the globe. Nature has it's limit in rebuilding itself. At the actual rate, in my humble opinion, nature is not fast enough to repair or recover for our numerous mistakes, acts and careless use of our planet. It certainly does not look too good for the future generations.

Technically . A perspective correction only as I opted for my widest angle shooting upward. Therefore I did need to correct the perspective. Framed , titled. I wanted the details of the sky , and just the silhouette of the ship only. Therefore the rapid shutter speed.

Ohaaa,
Hi, Robert,
A very clever idea to show just the ship's silhouette and to focus chiefly on the sea and sky. Superb composition and nice natural colours.

Beautiful image! I really like the mood conveyed by the dar colours and excellent balance of elements. The ship is definitely a strong focal point here and the lines of the rope lead the eyes very well from one side to the ship. The sky is stunning and very inspirational. It does give the impression of hope. Well composed image that almost look black and white. Thanks Robert.

Roberto

Excellent night sky, silver sea and silhouettes. Great compo and framing.

TFS,

Andreea

Hello Robert, excellent lighting and shadows.. composition is just right for my taste too, I would have cloned out the steel-rope at the top left corner though.. good job, thanks

Bonjour Robert
Superbe image avec ce navire en quasi silhouette. J'aime bien le
ciel avec ses nuages que tu as su capter pour donner une qualité
visuelle de plus à la présentation.

Paul

The darkness here somehow emphasizes the size of this ship. Great perspective and angle.
I looked at the fire photos. Never realised how bad it was.

A terrific picture, Robert. The sun very dim but creating a silky patch in the sky, the overall picture a tad underexposed which sets the mood. No kidding, if it was my shot it'd be on the wall by now ;o).
Nice frame too.

Bonjour Robert,
Un ciel qui ressemble à une mer tourmentée, un fleuve lisse comme comme un ciel dégagé par un beau soir de pleine lune! Quel mariage! comme témoin, ton visiteur grec ne gâche pas la scène, loin de là! Toute mon admiration mon cher ami! Annie

Hi Robert,

A great take with little land in it. I like how you composed the shot with the vessel to the left and a lot of (interesting!) sky visible. I really appreciate the diagonal of the line in the foreground and the little detail of the crane line and hook on the upper left. Nice little detail. Good sharpness overall. Great take!

Greetings, Dennis

Hi Robert,
A very strong and beautifully detailed picture of the MV Olympic Melody.
A pleasure to look at as I can imagine it was a pleasure for you to board!

Hi Robert,

Very nice gesture from you my good friend! A great shot, with amazing mood and lighting, well composed excellent clarity and detail. The sky is impressive and the cloud patterns very lovely.
Your note is very interesting. The fires have devastated our country, but we are optimistic that it will rise once more from its ashes, and the great response and help from many countries.
TFS,
Greetings,
Vassilis

a pretty sky and coposition of the single sunset silhouettes and a magical sea.
