While driving I came upon this abandoned house on the shores of Lake Champlain N.Y, whose only occupants were cats, and thought this might make a good shot.

Bonjour Dot
Bienvenue sur TL.Une belle composition bien cadrée pour cette première.J'aime bien ces vieilles demeures abandonnées qui sont très photogéniques.
Bonne journée et bonne année 2008.
Happy new year 2008.
Cordialement
Gildas

I just love the way you captured this old house, Dot, details are great and the bare tree surely adds a creepy touch to it! great one:)

Hello Dot
Welcome to TL
Nice to see you first post here.
Interesting place.
Thank you for sharing
bye Aga

Hi Dot
It sure makes a good shot. The subject is interesting, you selected a good point of view, the detail is sharp. .The sky is a bit dull but you can't do anything about it except cheating on photoshop. we lack information as to aperture, speed, artificial light etc, what we call the EXIF. This can help in suggesting tips.
Bienvenue dans la famille de Treklens
Bravo

Hello Dot

Firstly a very warm welcome to TL

This posting is superb, a lovely POV with excellent sharpness and detail, nicely framed view with good use of the tree on the right for natural framing.

Lovely work and looking forward to seeing more

TFS regards Helen

Welcome to Trek Lens
This is a wonderful picture with which to start your adventure on TrekLens. The colours are dull as befits this odd image and the details sharp and clear. The composition works very nicely, with the tree both part of the whole and acting as a frame. I hope to see lots more postings from you....

A few tips to make it easier and more fun:
- Each time you post a picture, take the time to visit at least 10 pictures in the Gallery to write a critique of the works of other photographers. Observing (and critiquing) the successes and errors of other members make for great opportunities to learn!
- Make use of the workshop (you’ll learn more about your own strengths and weaknesses by helping others improve)
- Always write more than 4 lines of NOTES. That allows members to give you points for usefulness and gives them a chance to learn more too!
- Read ABOUT (and FAQ)!
I am sure that these ideas will help you make the most of your stay on the site!!

TFS (Thank-you For Sharing)

Greetings & welcome to TrekLens Dot.Wish I had posted as good an image for my first posting.
I like your POV,it lets the viewer see all of the abandoned
building & just how much it has deteriated, taking it when the tree is bare of leaves adds to the vitality of the image, good composition & nice & sharp details.

Very nice! I love these type of pictures. I always wonder about the families that lived there. If only these old houses could talk. TFS

Dear Dot!
Amazing abandoned house. Mysterious object. Original POV. Very good capture.
Cheers!

Bonsoir Dot
Je suis surpris par le nombre de bâtisses abandonnées au Québec ! Joli témoignage d'un monde rural en péril.
Antoine.

Good evening my friend. 6:20 pm this time here. Excellent landscape.

Dear Dot,
I think I begin commenting your works, starting from this work.

To begin with, I can only critique based on technicality; composition, exposure and definition. But I need to see first the person's style and competency before I could say anything constructive about his or her works. Let just say, you don't or cannot judge a person by one photo alone. Before coming here, I browsed through your works to get a feel about who you are in relation to photography. I need to see how you see things. That in a way, gives me an idea how to understand what you have seen. And the reason why you took it.

For example this dilapidated house.
I asked myself, how did you know there were cats in there? Obviously, you must have taken the trouble to see the inside of this house. Or asked someone nearby. In general, most good photographer shoot subject that he or she knows has a meaning or taken the trouble to find or understand the meaning within.

My next question is, why took the house from outside and not inside where you could get those cats indoors amidst the abandoned effect. The answer is, because of the tree. To you the house is more important than the cat and the leafless tree is a "framed" way for you to say so.

Compared to everyone else who have seen this photo, you are the best person who could judge or say anything more about this work. You were there and knew better.

The questions left for me to ask, does the title expressed the scene. Does it feel abandoned by just looking at it? Does the environment helps in giving that sense of cold and abandoned? It does, doesn't it Dot?

Even the lackluster sky left me feeling cold.
Regards
Rabani
