[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another experiment for which I welcome your feedback.
This time, the colours are much gentler -- something for milady's bedroom perhaps?

1) I took a picture of a potted miniature rose, the bloom about the size of my thumbnail.

2) In Photoshop I isolated the flower from the rest of the image and pasted it into a new document. Then I passed it through two filters: crosshatch and angled strokes to create something that looked a bit more like an drawing than a photograph.
I tinted the background pale yellow and then used the elliptical marquee tool to create a large oval around the flower, with the edges feathered by 200 pixels (for a 4x6 image at 300 ppi). I selected the inverse, used the eyedropper to select a bit of pink from the flower and the paint bucket to add that colour to the selected outside of the oval.

2) I printed the result and then clipped the same flower I had just photographed from the rose bush, cut a small hole in the print and inserted the stem. I placed the combination on a table close to a window so that the sunlight created a shadow on the paper and photographed this "collage" with fill-in flash to minimize the shadow a little.

3) Final Tech: Initial and final images captured in raw, levels, contrasts and saturation all adjusted in raw; converted to jpg, resized, sharpened, framed and signed

Howdy Silke!
Amazing composition. Beautiful picture. Original frame. Great effect. I love it.
Cheers!

"something for milady's bedroom perhaps?"

Indeed!

This looks more like a painting and the pp work is really very well done. I've seen a few shots recently that would look good framed and on a wall somewhere, and this fits in perfectly with that trend. Really not something I could do and the thought that has gone into this is impressive. TL is a learning site, after all, and this is a great example of what can be done with good pp work - excellent note explaining your process as well.

Hello Silke,

I have followed your information regarding your pp work and find it just amazing!
You have created a beautiful 'water colour' of this tiny rose. The b/g looks like parchment and the lighting gives the most amazing 3D effect! This is quite superb!

I'm going to add it to my favourites Mrs. Monet!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your kind comments on 'Pocket Rocket'. Please have another look because I have just learned how to add a link! Isn't this a great site!

Hi Silk

Wonderful capture of of this lovely flower,
Great light and masterfully composed.
Well done!

John

the result with the shadow is interesting, the PP and the final photo, great idea, the result of overall composition is interesting but a bit busy, textures and colours, are very good
interesting approach and explanation in note, TFS

Hi Lotl,
Superb posting, almost an aging drawing, perfect soft pastel tones and the noise as if it is a nice painting. The shaddows on the frame are stunning; great PP-work my dear.

Hello Silke.

Very nice artwork, and your note is explaining very good what you have done in your PP.
I like the soft colors here, nice pastels.
I am a little uncertain about the background color, may be a more contrasting color, slightly darker - would make the rose stand more out. (It might also be my screen - its not a very good one! :)
Very creative work!
TFS!
Have a nice weekend -
Jon

Hi Silke,
A very creative work! An a splendid image! I could hang it on my bedroom's wall as Richard said.
I am impressed by the idea to make a collage before to take another shot using a play of light and shadows! It is creating a very good depth and 3D visual.
Perhaps, I could try Neat Image for the background.
Very nice image and instructive note. Bravo and thanks ! Annie

Hi Silke

I like the high key toned bg, & muted colours. "Milady" should be suitably impressed, lol. I also like the shadows falling beyond the frame. Tfs!

This is a stunning result Silke. I love how you have done the background and shadows. Nice textures and soft colours. Well done on the frame, creative and really suits this delicate and beautiful image. Congratulations.
Warm Regards
Wanda

Your notes are excellent, but I am not so sure about the position of the shadow. I think it might have worked better if the shadow were pointing toward the frame - into the "empty space."
Fine effort

Best regards
RG

Really well done Silke. The shadows and the pastel colours gives the image more of a painting quality than a photo. Like the step by step description of the pp work. (very generous). Thank you for the presentation and creativity.

Paul

Hello Silke
