Finally I took the week-end off (^_^)

On Friday afternoon until Saturday morning , we received at home officially 40 cms. However with the wind blowing, our house received much more . Look at the door knob in the background to convince you . The alley was filled up with a good meter of snow.

On Saturday morning , at about 06h00 Am , we heard our contractor coming to blow the snow from our driveway. Well since there is so much snow in front of the house , he was not really watching where he was dumping it . Result, he threw the load on our front door and window ! What a terrible noise, and scary moment. Fortunately , both did not break. But I had a long job to shovel this back ( LOL !). And it was jammed pack snow!

Three hours only to reach and clean our cars to get them out of the driveways. In the afternoon our contractor came to finish the job . Do I have to add Martine had a chat with the operator (^_^). But he was not the same guy who came in the morning.

I am adding a few shots as workshops ( nothing very artistic ) of our street. It could be renamed iceberg alley (^_^).

Here we are in our backyard . I am not posting images of birds very often. My camera is not good enough to capture quality images from a distance like Serge , Mario , Necip , Alper . All of them are members that I affectionate much for the quality of their works in ornithology. But I found the moment funny. I was of course inside the house about 12 m away. Took from the kitchen patio door. The turtle-doves were digging the snow in an attempt to find seeds. Three of them were looking at me. They seemed to tell me; ''C'mon Robert , add some seeds, there is no more left here ! '' (^_^)

Well, as I am writing these lines , the alley is still not shovelled . 30 m to shovel from the front to the garden house is not much , but with about a meter deep, I was not in shape to do that after cleaning the driveways. I will do it tomorrow.

Ohhhh! The bird feeder and hooks in the backgound were hand made by lovely ladies . if you remember, I also posted another photo of other realisations here . To Find more about those talented ladies , check here and here

Technically : Image taken just after the sunrise, It was still snowing, but the wind dropped considerably.
Lens against the glass of the door to cut reflections. Obviously image cropped to zoom a bit more on the feeder. Little level and constrasts adjustments. Resized, filtered , framed.

Salut Pierre,
Claudine

Hi Robert,

I think you have yourself a great Christmas card for next year! It is just beautiful. The National Humane Society would love this one!! It's just a great composition with nice colors and sharpness of the birds.

tfs, Lisa

Salut Robert,

Amicalement
Antoine

Hello Robert.
Lovely looking picture, but the story tells something else, haha
Glad, we here have 'only' rain. sniff.
Regards from Jan

I hope that the operator did not also hit some of these poor birds when he was so careless!!
Great capture, wonderful moment -- I can see these little ones looking right at you waiting for their breakfast.

Bonjour Robert,
Super!

Michel.

Oh Robert, I don't know how you can live like this when the snow arrives. You must be late for work - or not even get there some days?? And how wet it must be, and exhausting clearing away the snow - too tiring to think about...

But your lovely doves - I hope you managed to throw them some seeds. Yes, I can see snow still falling - it's a good shot - but COLD!!

Warm regards from hot, sunny NZ
Janice

Bonsoir Robert

The angle is amazing - looks like the snow is up to the door knob - based on the weather I imagine it is every bit of that. The birds must be greatful for the handouts in these conditions. Well done my friend.

Dan

beautiful. what more can i say. a great capture with great timing.
:D comming up shortly ...

Hi Robert,
Good thing you took a week off, you probably needed it just to shovel out!! Yikes! Now Thats snow like we used to get when we lived in Vermont. The poor morning doves! At least they have a little roof over their heads! Beautiful shot of the fresh fallen snow and the cute little gazebo..:o)

Hi Robert,

That looks very cold and what a big pack of snow!
The turtle-doves are more trying to keep under the little roof. I know, I would if I'd been a turtle-dove. I'm now wondering how they ever gotten to the word 'turtle-dove'.
A good overview with the two workshop postings! What an incredible pack of snow in front of your door. And what a good note!

Greetings, Dennis

That is one lot of snow Robert, I think I prefer to look at it from a distance rather than have it in my front yard :). Lovely muted colours, good light and well composed. TFS,
David

Hi Robert,
What a beautiful feeder, and it is quite the thing for these birds taking a bit of shelter. Lovely scene, and informative note. The layers are very effective here.
All the best,
Karen

Hello Robert :o)

Felicitaciones y saludos.
Felicitaciones y saludos.
