Rideau Canal, Ottawa, Canada.
What I am trying to show through this picture is what Rideau Canal the world's longest skateway(7.8 km.) is like in the weekends during the winters; it gets jam packed but there are relatively few people on weekdays.

This is again not a very technical photo or anything, but since this place has a very special place in my my heart, I am going to upload it anyways.

by the way, I live 6 km. from the university along the canal and it gives me an excellent opportunity to skate everyday. I always go to work on skates when the canal is open for skating.

I hope you will let me know if I have been able to capture the mood in this photo or not
Critiques would be appreciated

To really get the feel of the canal go to Reideau Canal click on "Virtual Tour" and than on "Skate the Canal" for a video of the whole canal.
I hope you like it as much as I do.
Thanks for visiting

I think you've captured very well the whole scene. I get the sense of the crowd and the vastness of the "rink". It's hard to say, but I might have chosen a less centered point of view, probably to the left to get more of that nice line of trees as a background. Still, a very nice shot. TFS!

To TOURNESOL... it ain't no rink. It is a canal a bloddy frozen canal. Brrr it is soooo cold in Ottawa. Used to live there many years ago when I used to work in the city. Nice photo... like the people doing their thing. THanks Sarju

Bonjour Sarju. En regardant ta photo, j'entends les cirs de joie des enfants et le brouhaha de la foule. Très belle perspective également. Amitié, Patty.

Hi Sarju,
Nice. I think you portrayed the spirit of ice skating very well. But, for the distance of this canal, I think, it may have been better to have shot it at a location where there wasn't a noticeable turn or "end" in the background. The composition is okay. But, you could play with taking it at a diagonal and see what you get. Your note on this one was great. I just finished the virtual tour...I can't believe it took that long...and at that speed!...very informative... Interesting subject! Well done!
And welcome to TL!
Richard

Wonderful capture Sarju...the vastness of the skating area and people are very good.

I guess it is an incredible feeling.. wow.. I'll buy a roller and just keep rolling :)

Nice shot. Great angle, depth and angle.
Like it a lot. *

Hi Sarju, it's such an interesting perspective.. it seems fun to skate there on the ice..hehehe... this photo reminds me an impressionist painting..

Hello Sarju,

From the critic you left on one of my photos on TE, I ended up here. Great shot of the rideau canal. I haven't been there since my chilhood, and this photo reminds of nice memories. Good point of view and I like the play on perspective.

Bonjour Sarju
Excellente publicité pour un pamphlet touristique d'Ottawa!
Il est admirable de voir la perspective verticale parfaitement respectée. Peu de gens s'en soucient.
Admirable.

I like this shot. It's kind of like a "Where's Waldo?" photograph. Lots of people in what looks like a narrow skate path. Nice.
