Another one of those crazy clone jobs!

My apologies, friends - uploaded at the last minute, I didn't get around to writing a proper note. In the meantime, I already got a ton of comments and suggestions, thanks!

To those who recognize the Monty Python connection (spoofing Canadian He-man Lumberjacks): yeah, you are right - while working on the piece, I couldn't get the song out of my head, so at your own peril, click this video link - the song might follow you around for a while, like it did me........

The thought behind it: It's a "What If" story - there are parasites on plants; in the Pacific rainforest you find so called nurse logs, where new sprouts grow in fallen and decaying logs; we are sometimes invaded by fungus diseases, so why not something larger; I am also thinking of a painting by Arik Brauer that shows a palm tree growing from a date seed in the pouch of a perished bedouin in the desert - so what if a seedling sprouted on my arm, like on a nurse log? It just couldn't wait, I guess ..... What If .......

For the PP work: the concept came first; I thought about this years ago already as a painting (that never materialized). The selfportrait was taken in my backyard a week ago, the sprout is from my yard also. The background is from a trip to Waterton Park last September. The chainsaw is electric, so first of all I had to clone out the cord. Next I darkened the picture and brought back the figure with the history brush, leaving the background near black (It's easier to work with that way in the next step). I then scaled the picture size to the Waterton background and cloned it onto the Waterton picture roughly, again using the history brush to restore the bg and draw around the edges of the figure. Working back and forth with history and clone, at various brush styles and opacity settings, I added the fine touches. Once completed, I cloned a picture of a cedar branch onto my arm, same procedure as above. Then I cloned some roots from an uprooted houseplant from my stock files onto my arm. Finishing touches with burn and dodge for highlights and shadows, finally cropped to balance the design.
Cheers
Otto

Hi Otto,
You know the film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2"? Your photo makes me think at this great thriller. But, contrary at this film, there is some poetry in your image. Even if it is a lumberjack's poetry, it is nevertheless poetry, no? I like the tree growing on your arm ... And your stupor... LOL
Congratulations for this brilliant idea and your skills to realise it with such a évocative and humoristic way! Annie

Hi Otto,

You got me singing the song! Monty Python fans unite! (I hope that is your reference, or I feel really silly....like silly walk silly) LOL

This one made my day! Expression is great! I'm still giggling.

Hi Otto
I am laughing my head off.
You look scary enough with the Csaw that you could scare anyone trying to enter your territory.
You need that arm growing a tree for all the fun pp work you give us. Fantastic humourous shot.
Dot

What an imagination, Otto and I love it. Your Pp work is so seamless that you would not know where you matched in other images. I am not sure what to say as I am just in awe of the work you have done here. Everything looks as it should with consistent lighting on everything. Wow. I think I will leave it at that and go back to enjoying the smile from the image and try to get that darn song out of my head now.
Exceptional work.
Warm Regards
Wanda
