[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The title is borrowed from, and its use is an homage to, Antonioni's landmark film "Blowup," whose title refers to the process of magnifying photographic details, but also metaphorically to events that get out of control. In this photo, of course, the blowup is literal: this building's guts have been exploded out into the world.

As dramatic as the photo looks, there have been no bombings in Toronto recently. In fact this is simply part of a demolition of a building (a school I think) to make way for some newer structure.

I really wanted to get closer and take pictures from a variety of interesting angles, but the place was surrounded by a chain link fence and there was a very diligent guard preventing anyone from getting near. This shot was made through the fence.

Tech: the original was quite blown out due in part to my camera and in part to the very sunny day, so I had to adjust levels and do some burning in, especially on the debris. I'm not entirely satisfied with the results, but I still like the picture.

The original is in the workshop section. Feel free to have a go at it if you like.

Hi Lee, interesting picture. Very good workshop!. I think we are mentaly connected becouse the other day I saw a demolition too and I thought the same. I also have some photos of demolitions but they are from a pre-digital era.
regards

Hello Lee,
What an expressionist home!
I like it.. So messy.
And good PP work, much better than the original..
Regards!

Hi Lee,
Very good pp work. I saw the original and you didn't just save the picture, you made it better. The solar flare is gone, and the more saturated colors really make this image "more alive." Well done!
Richard

Blow up was one of the the ultimate movies to see when I was young.
