[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is Mr. Western Northern Flicker, red-shafted sub-species, member of the Woodpecker Family. The Western version is very different from the Eastern version in Quebec. (I only know this thanks to Serge.)

Apparently Mr. & Mrs. Flicker migrated north a bit too soon and now have to dig for their food in fresh snow. Mr. Flicker came up for air as required.

Hi Karin
Nice shot. Here you got the male with its mustache. He migrated too early, he feeds on the ground eating ants.
Good natural colors and crisp detail.
Great shot
Serge

Hi Karin,
Maybe a bit too central, but you captured this special bird very well, nicely sharp and a fine pose. I think the berry on the forground is a nice detail :-)

Technically much better than the previous, with a good looking subject and great exposure. Let's face it though: you need a bigger lens for this kind of stuff. I also tried photographing birds with a 100 mm lens, and the results were good, but never excellent. The composition is a bit too central and I think the aperture could have been considerably smaller (I actually meant wider).

Hi Karin.

Nice sharpness and colours in the snowy landscape.
I am not sure how I would translate a 'flicker' in Dutch. Looks a bit like a woodpecker. But only a little bit in the shape. Beautiful little bird.

Greetings, Dennis

I like the way this bird integrates to it's environment. There are lots of interesting details in the shot.
