I pointed the camera facing the sky, and aimed at a birch tree branch to catch the new growth. I discovered when wanting to frame it that It had cobwebs caused by the tiny red spider on the bottom leaf.

The sun was shining and I had no lens hood for that lens. Got one for the larger lens but naturally it does not fit the smaller one so I had to improvise.

Taking a plastic can of lays potato chips I cut it by 2/3, cut a hole on the end and it fitted perfectly on the 18X55 and that is what I used to snap this.

The only post processing is the frame added.

Very creative Dot how you are making a lens hood - my "old" lens also had no hood, however the new one has and that can be handy at times.
Love how the sunlight shows part of the tiny web - very delicate composition this way.

Hi Dot

A pleasing repetitive pattern, of the evenly spaced backlit green leaves. Good capture of the spider webs with the diagonal axis of the branch adding dynamism. Tfs!

A lovely composition of a great shot. Thanks for sharing your tips on how you achieved this too. I love the OOB presentation. The only thing that I would change is taking out the small bit of leaf at the top left. Still an excellent image that is going right into my OOB theme.

Hello Dot,

The composition of this is excellent! I just love how the twig comes through the border!
The spider's web has the strange effect of making the twig look as if it is moving!

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Dot,
I realy like Birch trees. You have captured the young branch realy well and especialy in the circumstance that you have explained. The detail is very good showing the leaf patterns and cobwebs. The brightness and the shadows works well along with the fact it runs diagonal in the frame which in its self is a simple but effective frame. Well done

Codge

Lovely image Dot. Those cobwebs make it all the more interesting too. The only thing I would change would be to crop out the top left leaf poking its head into the scene.
Well framed too
Janice

PS Good improvising too with the chip can!!
