[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This is an ashtray besides the back door where I work.

And this is at 7:30 in the freakin' morning. In February!!!
Can you just imagine what it looks like in the late afternoon?????

Before the administrators put up the ashtrays, those smokers would just trow the butts on the lawn.
Disgusting, the office yard looked like a giant ashtray.

There is a law in Québec that it is forbidden to smoke in public places. So people just take some time off and go smoke outside. Even in winter when it -30°C.

And they think they're smoking tobacco. This is a list of the additives in cigarettes. And there are 599 of them identified there.

The 1982 United States Surgeon General's Report stated that "Cigarette smoking is the major single cause of cancer mortality in the United States." This statement is as true today as it was in 1982.

Smoking is responsible for nearly 1 in 5 deaths in the United States. Because cigarette smoking and tobacco use are acquired behaviors -- activities that people choose to do -- smoking is the most preventable cause of premature death in our society.

Cigarettes, cigars, and spit and pipe tobacco are made from dried tobacco leaves, as well as ingredients added for flavor and other properties. More than 4,000 individual chemicals have been identified in tobacco and tobacco smoke. Among these are more than 60 chemicals that are known carcinogens (cancer-causing agents).

There are hundreds of substances added to cigarettes by manufacturers to enhance the flavor or to make the smoking experience more pleasant. Some of the compounds found in tobacco smoke include ammonia, tar, and carbon monoxide. Exactly what effects these substances have on the cigarette smoker’s health is unknown, but there is no evidence that lowering the tar content of a cigarette improves the health risk. Manufacturers do not usually give out information to the public about the additives used in cigarettes, so it is hard to know the health risks.

Very negative Pierre!! We have the same law too - also not allowed in pubs and cafes and restaurants. And you see all these poor, brave smokers sitting / standing outside in the cold weather, freezing in the wind... and dropping their buts wherever they can!

Bonjour Pierre,
Un sujet qui s'inscrit très bien dans ce thème!
On pourrait qualifier ta photo d'une belle horreur sur laquelle tu as braqué les projecteurs !
Superbe cette lumière qui ne brûle (!) pas les blancs tout en accentuant les jaunes (j'imagine les doigts des fumeurs...).
Utilisation judicieuse du filtre(!) en arrière plan...

Great shot, good sharpness, well presented, a perfect light and a good focus.
That was about the shot and it is real good.

The discussion about smooking, I dont know what to say, I know and I agree the smokers have ruind it for them selfs, by smoking every where, troving the cigarets every where, so that cant be discused, but the rest !!!!!!!
Al you smoke haders, take care when you are working around on your streets, where you live, because the smoke from the industri the cars, the airplains the trow away people, ho dump all the trash everywhere is at much bigger problem, but no one yels, because they are the ovner of a car themselfs, they are using airplaines they are buing the stuf from the industri, they are using the oil to heat, and I can go on, the wonderful thing is no one cares but smoke from a cigaret, every one is going dicret in to the reed in seconds - strange....
Never the lees we are still alive and we will all die at the end, its about having a good time while we are here and stop the fight against every one ho dosent think like your self.
This hade against the smokers are going out of hand, try to do what you have been demanding from the smokers, show a little bit of understanding and accept others needs and whishes.
"CIGARETTES CONTAIN FAT."
Do you think that will help - it havent stoped your gys over there to eat Hamburges, Burgeres, peaunutbutter,frensfries and so one, stop now all the nonsens show accept and some normal behaver.
Ore are your whishes.
Forbid reedhear, fat people, wrong parfume, long hair - ho shal put up the conditions????? the none smokers????

Nice service warning... Here some towns have laws about smoking under windows or near entry ways.. Perfect idea for the theme.... nice message... Its all about education!

***cough cough*** Wheeeeeze! Unreal! The quality here is superb Pierre! Excellent message too! I never smoked, I tried...but just could not handle it! So I stole my grandmother's cigarettes, thinking she would come back to the ashtray, say "Oh well, it's gone again, I think I'll quit!"... NOT....not until her heart attack at age 75 and then she just put them down. no problem!
However I LOVE the smell of them outside, as it does remind me of my grandmother...**cough cough**
As a person with Asthma, this stuff is deadly to me!

This makes me want to cough.....
That's one negative image.
I smoked for a lot of years, gave it up a half-dozen or so years ago, never looked back and this stuff makes me wonder how/why I ever did.
But, in a minor defense, it was possible to smoke without being a boor or slob about it either, but that doesn't change the health aspects.
Great idea to use this image to satisfy the requirements of the theme. :0)

A good image to get the message across Pierre. Nice crop with good colour and detail. I won't buy into the argument, suffice to say I ahven't been able to spend much time outdoors for the last 3 weeks or so due to heavy smoke haze from various burn offs. Instead I stay inside and inhale my own smoke :)

Humans are a bit difficult to understand as it seems as if they get more thrill out of doing what's bad for THEMSELVES.
