This is what a bedroom looked like in the 1700s.

This is the bedroom in the miller's house near the Île Perrot mill. It consists of 2 rooms. A first for that period since those houses where usually open. The reason for the separate bedroom is because the miller might get clients that stayed overnight overnight.

The post are there for a reason. They are not only decorative. In the winter time, they would throw cloth over the posts to create a tent where the parents along with the children would sleep. Thus conserving heat.

That,s what the guide at the mill told us :-). No reason not to believe him.

Hello to those of you that are just looking.
And HELLO and THANK YOU VERY MUCH to those of you that take the time to leave critiques/comments/workshops :-).

You know Piet, you could pick up a little once in a while! Your poor wife works so hard! And also, it's time to get that bedroom looking modern too! You did the roof, the kitchen! Let's pour some of those lotto winnings into the boudoir! ***wink wink***
Nice work...would kill for this flooring in my house!

Pierre,
Great shot of this bedroom. Looks a little messy but in the 1700's they must not have cared. If my daughters had this room they wiuld call it prison. Life without ipod's or television, what an interesting time this must have been. Nice work.
Regards,
Kevin

Bonsoir Pierre,

Annie

I love old , Pierre and the reasons they did things. This is a wonderful example and you have presented it very well indeed. The inclusion of the rafter is perfect to bring us to the beautiful bed. Very good detail throughout. I love the old slippers/shoe on the floor. We are going to Upper Canada Village again soon, you would love it. Bravo mon ami.

Amitiés sincères

Nice colour and light Pierre. A small room and yet you managed to get so much into the shot. Multiply the amount of clothes strewn around by 10 and you have Sandy's eldest's bedroom...on a good day.
