The war of 1812.
*”The War of 1812 was fought between the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and its colonies, including Upper Canada (Ontario), Lower Canada (Quebec), Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Bermuda.
The war lasted from 1812 to 1815, although a peace treaty was signed in 1814. By the end of the war, 1,600 British and 2,260 American soldiers had died. In addition, tens of thousands of slaves escaped to British lines because of their offer of freedom, or they just fled in the chaos of war. The British settled a few thousand of the newly freed Americans in Nova Scotia.
Great Britain had been at war with France since 1793 and in order to impede neutral trade with France in response to the Continental Blockade, Britain imposed a series of trade restrictions that the U.S. contested as illegal under international law. The United States declared war on Britain on June 18, 1812 for a combination of reasons, including outrage at the impressment (conscription) of American sailors into the British navy, frustration at British restraints on neutral trade, and anger at alleged British military support for American Indians who were hostile to the United States.”
Over the weekend many volunteers from both Canada and the U.S. spent their time dressed and living as they did in 1813 at Upper Canada Village to present the reenactment of the battle of Chrysler farm. These folks lived in tents, prepared their food and lived as the people of that time would have. Upper Canada Village is maintained totally as the village was in the time period.
This image is of the British soldiers as they have just left the church, from their prayers in preparation for the battle.
Unfortunately for us the second day of the battle could not proceed as the rain you see falling in the image, prevents the firing of black powder, so the battle reenactment was cancelled at the last minute.

Hi Wanda,
I like the perspective made by the soldier and the red of their costume . Your blured backgroung helps to concentrate on the main subject . I can see the rain drops .
Daniel

Hi Wanda,
Beautifully composed. I feel like this is a scene from a remake of a Jane Austen movie. IMO, the image would not have the same 'ooomph' factor without the woman on the right. I don't think I can suggest ways of improving it. A job well done. Danilo

What an interesting event this must have been, a shame it was rained out as I'm sure alot of work went into planning the day. I like the bright colors and the clothing. Great job! TFS and have a happy day!

Hi Wanda,
Excellent entry for the theme! The composition with these soldiers walking towards an uncertain time is very good!
I like the focus on their red uniforms and the light blurred rest of image.
Very beautifully done! Annie

Hello Wanda,

A very well composed shot!
The line of the soldiers, with their bright red uniforms, follows the line of the road and guides us into the shot!

I find the position of the lady very interesting! It can be read on so many different levels!
Good dof.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

What an life! And death too!
Good notes Wanda - thank you.
This is a good composition - the actors are well placed. Strong colours - that red stands out. I always found it amusing to think the soldiers wore red - how could they ever think to hide in battles? You can't sneak up in a red jacket!

That new camera didn't let you down with this shot Wanda. Very well composed and the colours stand out well against the misty looking background. A wonderful contribution to the theme,
David

Hello Wanda,
The chosen 2.8 focal makes for such a terrific DOF here by far the srongest point of your composition in my opinion .Whatever has to be sharp undeniably is ! I like it a lot, flawlessly presented and the colors of the soldiers' uniforms are vibrant,
Bravo,
Carol

would you want to go to this time if suddenly you have the chance to be a time traveller for one day, Wanda?

reminders of another time.. i like the title suit well with your subject.. lovely interpration of this week theme and sure look like from the past because of the bg.. tfs..

Hello, Wanda -
Great POV for this wonderful image. The line of soldiers in their colorful coats angling down the road lead the eye perfectly through the frame. Sharp details and fine atmosphere which makes the viewer feel transported to the time of the war. Well done.

Hi Wanda,

Your Fstop slowly lets the first soldier in line blur away and the timeless feeling of this picture really makes me believe this is the 1800's.
Seems like the weather was not that great. But the red and white make the picture look nice and colourful.

Hi Wanda,
Sorry for this late reply. Anyway a wonderful step back in time :-) The red jackets are a striking detail in theis image. The row of soldiers gives the picture a nice depth. The lady at the end of the row is teh finishing touch! Well observed and captured.

Peaceful canadians, we are known, yet in every war we are always there to help battle it out. I think they should change the slogan.
You really take us back into time, Good shot
