Just a simple butterfly – though I would appreciate the help of anyone who can ID this baby for me.
Captured in the gardens of a church which has offered up its lawns to become productive plots for the surrounding apartment dwellers.

Tech: Captured in raw; then using Photoshop CS2: adjusted levels, colour saturation and contrast in raw, converted to jpg, cropped for square format, burned out a couple of distracting bright spots in the shadows, resized, sharpened, then blurred BG with a soft brush and signed

Thanks for looking and for all your critiques, workshops and suggestions. Have a healthy, happy, safe week.

Nothing simple about this one! I just LOVE the angle of the wings on this shot! Really super saturation of the flower makes this a real eye-catcher! I just love butterflies! MORE MORE!

very nice and clear macro,...love the angle that allows for both (flower and butterfly to be seen).

Hi Silke

A really beautiful and delicate shot here, lovely detail and nice contrasting colours too. I have searched to try and find the name of this butterfly but so far the closest I have found is the black Swallowtail.. which while the colours match this one clearly does not have the swallowtail shaped wings.. I will continue to search :-)

Kind regards Helen

Wow, this is an amazing macro Silke.
I like the square crop and the placement of the butterfly
is perfect in the upper left corner.
Great vibrant orange too.
Well done.

This really is very good, Silke. The colours, the composition, the details - all first class. I'm really impressed that this result was achieved without a dedicated macro lens...excellent!

Hi Silke
Very beautiful macro composition in a good colour.

Hello Silke,

This is just stunning.
You have a good angle to show the details of the butterfly and equally sharp details of the flower.
My butterfly book is just on European butterflies. I had a quick look on Canadian butterflies in the Internet but couldn't get a good match for the one you have posted. Sorry! Someone will name it for you!
Co-incidentally, there was a news item on T.V. this morning highlighting the loss of butterflies in this country. Seemingly there is a fly which parasitises the small tortoise shell, hence 80% loss.
I have only seen 6 small whites and a brown meadow this year!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silke,
Superb composition and contrasting colors for this macro! I especially like the velvet aspect of the wings that you rendered. It is not easy to do it so finely! Excellent light and sharpness! Bravo! Annie

Hi Silke,
Marvelous summertime macro of this stunning butterfly seen in sharp detail ash she gently lands on this brilliant yellow fower.
The details and sharpness are subperp but the clear crisp colors steal the show.

Hi Silke,
Lovely saturated colors. The diagonal angle of the butterfly is nice. You are very good on the enhancement of impact with neat works in processing. Lovely result indeed.
Regards,
Ramdan.

An excellent capture Silke and very good PP work. The butterfly positioned nicely and the colour and detail just wonderful,
David

Hi Silke,

Great macro shot! Vivid colors, excellent lighting, very good detail and well composed.
TFS,
Vassilis

You are luck to have captured a butterfly, I am still looking for one. And when I see one, it will not set on a flower for even a moment.

Very nice close-up and colours, and sharp.

Cheers! Yan

Hi Silke,

What a lovely, elegant and sunny picture.
I don't know much about butterflies, except that it is lovely to see them.
No suggestions what so ever (if you want those, you really have to upload much worse pictures then this one - this one is very enjoyable,

TFS
Els

Bonsoir Silke,
sorry I don't know the name of this butterfly, this isn't my specialty.
What macro with a superb quality in the details of this butterfly, we see much to enjoy the nectar of the zinnia flower a powerful color that gives the insect even more impact. Very great shot.
Kind regards, Corinne

Beautiful world of the God.
