Continuing my series on the CNE, this is one of many I took after nightfall, all without a tripod, trying to capture the feeling of this little island of light.

I shot at ISO 1600, with my shutter as wide open as possible to keep my speed at 1/60 of a second or slightly above.

Tech: Captured in raw and adjusted levels, contrast & saturation in raw with PhotoShop CS2, converted to jpg, cloned out another ride partially visible through the struts of the ferris wheel, selected black sky and applied Smart Blur to make sure there was no noise even though I couldn't see any :), resized, sharpened and signed

Thanks for looking and for all your critiques, workshops and suggestions. Have a healthy, happy, and safe weekend.

Yep my dear Silke, you get a TEXAS EXCELLENCE AWARD for this one! Just amazing details, love the signature line too! Really excellent work on this! I am quite impressed!
B-)
Linda

Hi Silke,
What a great nightshot composition! Perfect setting combination for ISO, shutter speed and flash. Sharp, colorful image. Very well done! TFS.
Regards,
Kristof

Excellent handheld shot, very sharp for such a night photo. Good work getting rid of noise!
David

Hi Silke,
Nice shot of the ferris wheel, have you been out with David (Whiteknight) LOL, the colours and sharpness are good here and I like the angle of your POV, nice camera control with the 1600 ISO and as you say not a spot of noise, one little niggle, it would have been nice to have the signature on the same arc as the wheel, thats just me being picky though.
Well done
Regards Andy

You certainly caught the mood of the fairground from all of your images on this subject Silke.I really like this night shot, due to its clarity of detail, not an easy shot to take.
Perfect POV & I liked that your signature has the same curve as the rides.

This is amazing, Silke!
The details and the focus are fabulous for such difficult conditions without a tripod!
(I tried to take an illuminated church without a tripod and ended deleting them all!)
I like the curved signature!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Silke,
Great job on exposure ! There still are enough colors left, which give a great contrast on the black sky.
greetings,
Joop!

The wheel is nicely lit up Silke. Good shot for a night one. I imagine it wasn't easy to do. It's come out very colourful and sharp.

I find the signature in the top LH corner a bit irritating - I think the curve should be the same as the wheel or maybe not there at all, meaning an all black space would make it look better - IMO.

Janice

Hola Silke.
Buenos detalles y gran nitidez.
Ajustado enfoque y perfecta calidad.
Un cordial saludo, JL.

Hi Silke,

Very colorful shot. I, too, can't resist taking photos of ferris wheels.

I like the yellow against the black. I do think that I would prefer your signature amongst the bottom portion of your shot. It's creative, yet a bit obtrusive in my opinion (but that's just my taste).

I like the crowd that you have captured at the bottom too. Lisa

Lovely indeed, specially for a hand held shot!
Great details and light and the sharpness is really good too.
Don't think I can keep my hands that steady....

;-) cheers,
Anneke

Silke HI;
Amazing night phntography. Wonderful clarity and splendid colors.
Excellent PoV.
Thanks for the note, as well
Congratulations, very nicely composed and presented, my friend

I think this is the first shot i have ever seen where a signature actually adds something to a shot! :-) I'm going to agree partly with Janice about the curve, but disagree about the irritiating bit, I quite like it. I think the top left of the screen would be a bit too empty otherwise.

Funny, I've just critiqued David's ferris wheel shot where the long exposure worked well, but I like this one also.
The angle of the shot is good and you can almost smell the popcorn :-)

Hello Silke

A wonderful night shot here, lovely colour and lighting. Nice angle with full view of the wheel and I like how you have followed the shape with the text too

TFS regards Helen

Beautiful night shot with lovely colours. . I like the night colours. Good composition.
Best wishes,
Achim

Technically very well done considering the lightconditions !
Marked it as " useful " because want to try it myself.
" someday " :-(
The " but " : the wheel seems, to me, " falling " to the right.
