Ghosts from the past

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
An old abandoned shack in Sandon, a photographer’s haven and a bewildering walk back into history where old rusty bits and pieces remain. The date was 1892 and boom towns sprang into existence throughout the West Kootenays in British Columbia, Canada. Sandon was the centre of all this activity and became the showpiece of the entire region. In the 1890s, Sandon was a city with all the modern conveniences: theatres, stores, 29 hotels, 28 saloons, factories and mills. A large red-light district thrived due to the predominance of men. Electricity was "state of the art" and Sandon became the first city in BC to be entirely electrified. In the years after the boom, mining diminished. After a major flood, Sandon became a ghost town and today boasts a population of about 10 people.
