[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
My submission to the “Cold Abstract” theme for this Friday is a simple one. It is merely a flower of rust, blooming on the hood of my late and dearly beloved Geo Metro.
She was a delightful shade of purple, the same shade (originally) as the purple of my university crest. I bought her new while I was studying at Wilfrid Laurier University and she took me back and forth from Oakville to Waterloo (about an hour and a quarter each way) almost every day.
Her rich grape colour earned her the name of Katherine the Grape, and she was soon nicknamed Katie. In keeping with my punny nature, it was just the thing, for this way, if she ever got a ticket (she never did), I could just say “See what Katy did?”
:)

This photograph was taken on the day I retired her and replaced her with the anonymous 2000 silver Saturn I now drive - a car that will be some day replaced by another one with enough character to once again earn a name of its own!

Because this is from the oldest section of my archives, there is little to tell you in terms of technical details. At that point I was new to TrekLens and was still shooting with my Coolpix 5700 set on Automatic. I was more concerned about composition that about controlling the other aspects of the photographic process.

Many thanks to the anonymous persons who ordered me to "pack up and leave" TrekLens. Your e-mail encouraged me to come back in full force.
To everyone else: thanks for looking for critiquing , for suggestions on how this might be improved.

To EVERYONE: have a safe, happy and healthy weekend :)

You go girl! I'm SO proud to have you as a friend! And I just LOVE this RUSTY flower that so graced your Purple People Eater! Love the sharpness and details! Very abstract as it takes reading the notes to know what it is! Good work Silke!
B-)
Linda

Hi Silke,
Very nice rust rose! It immediately caught my eye due to its colors and texture. Very lovely "specked" purple.

Hi Silke,
Wow, that's a relly impressive abstract, too... The purple colours are in great contrast to te redish shades. Enlightment of te subject and sharpness is excellent. Here cold abstract is mixed with warm abstract becuse of the redish colours, but that's not a problem :), great job! Nice contribution to the theme. TFS.
Greetings,
Kristof

Hi Silke,
I maybe had a shot at figuring this one out, although maybe not. ;) It certainly became obvious after the note...duh..
Anyway, very cool addition to the theme--not meant aa s pun necessarily--and very effective as an abstract.
Good work, glad that you're here still.
Be well, TFS,
Wilt

Hi Silke, good choice for the abstract theme.I kept away from your notes,in the hope that I could guess what your image was,
after 30 seconds I had to look, glad I did as I would never have guessed,I had a 5700 too & loved it,unfortunately it was stolen while on a vacation.
Hope you find that next car that makes you want to give her a name.

Hey Silke
before reading your notes I would have guessed your outdoor grill :)
Nice idea for the theme... I like the crisp details you where able to capture... Enjoy your weekend as well and keep posting!
I think some of us need a reminder why we are on TL and its been a wake up call!

Love the note about this one and the retired car. Clear and sharp including the tear in the metal. Good color contrast Silke. So happy that you are back full force. You were missed.
Mmmmm, an anonymous person who doesn't have the "balls" sign something like that isn't worth worrying about.

Dan

hi silke, nice add to the theme, nice colors and details, well done, that poor old metro!

A brilliant observation to the 'commonly unexpected' beauty. It is a nice abstract, well taken. Beautiful indeed.

Stay strong, Silke. I believe, TL needs your thoughts and contributions - to me, you didn't just share the photographic things but also some language stuff. Good for non-English speaker like me.

Ramdan.

Hi Silke,

I would have never guessed the origin of this rose. Neat looking abstract. I like the flecks in the purple paint.

Enjoy your weekend. Lisa

Hi Silke,
This is an interesting picture. I had no idea what it was until I read your note. The rust flower looks great and certainly abstract. The detail in the picture is really good. Very nice work.

Kevin

Funny how some cars must have a name and others not Silke. A definite abstract and a worthy addition to this week's theme,
David

hello Silke,

n my eyes it look like clam or fried oyster.. i don't know why but that what came in my head first.. beautiful contribution again.. i like it very much.. tfs..

Good one Silke - "Rust Never Sleeps."
Yes, I see the rust lifting the paintwork, but what a pretty farewell present she had for you. Just as well you replaced her - it was going to cost you a lot to have fixed her.
Nice one for the theme
Janice

Hi Silke,
This is great! Simple rock in the sand with such great colours and fine textures. The glittering sand is perfect captured. A wonderful contribution to the theme! Excellent fame to my dear.
Hans

Hello Silke,

It is amazing how inanimate objects can stir such deep emotion. I have had similar feelings about many things ... cars included Fec, our first car, being one of them.

The textral details of this are superb.
And, the swirls of rust help to give a great a great abstract pattern.

Have a good w/e,
Bev :-)

hi silke.
great to see you posting again. it wasn't the same without you.
here's a little something to sing to your car....

'I'm not the going steady kind
I miss 'em all, all the time
I told Annie I'd be true
But I still think about Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
I still think about Katy too

If you should see miss Mary-Ann
Just tell her I'm her loving man
Give my love to Jane and Sue
But don't forget ol' Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
Don't forget ol' Katy too

I like Sadie's chicken stew
And Suzie's good at stitchin' wool
I like Mary's barbecue
But I still like ol' Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
I still like ol' Katy too

Now, girls I'm not the flirty kind
But I just can't make up my mind
I'd like to marry all of you
But I still miss ol' Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
I still miss ol' Katy too

To all the girls I make this toast
I love you eveyone the most
But don't ask me to say "I do"
'Cause I still miss ol' Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
I still miss ol' Katy too

Cupid you bet you been good to me
I got more girls than I can see
But if you give me all but two
Then let's squeeze in ol' Katy too

Katy too, Katy too
Let's squeeze in ol' Katy too'
(johnny cash)

united we stand. divided we fall.
love,
Brian

Hi Silke,
This rusty flower is a good idea for the theme! I like the contrast with the orange tones enhancing the coldness of the blue. Excellent textures and good memories of your old car! Sorry for you, the harassing is a deplorable behavior. Cheer for your photo and your determination! Annie

Hiya Silke

What an interesting shot here and an excellent idea for the theme. I love the shapes here and the colours. I am glad you explained what the item is as the shot really does have an abstract feel to it.

TFS kind regards Helen

Hello Silke.
It looks rather weird, but a very good abstract picture it is.
