Once again this year , I had the priviledge to attend in Port Saguenay after New Year to board a vessel . Unfortunately she was not the first one to call in 2009. In a way it was easier , as she stayed only a few hours in port to discharge a load of containers.

You can not see her here , instead I propose you for the Friday theme, the icebreaker CCGS Terry Fox NGCC Terry Fox in French for ''Navire de la Garde Cötière Canadienne '' who escorted her on the Saguenay River from Ile Saint-Louis up to here. Agrandir le plan . Now it is time to sail back to sea, and the icebreaker is back to escort her down the fjord. It was a pretty cold Day . - 25 Degrees Celcius in the mid afternoon. Early morning Temperature was - 32 Celcius.

Technically; On purpose, I centered the ship here as she was nearly stopped off the berth. It was now snowing gently on the other side of the fjord. You just have a glimpse of the north shore. Image uncropped once again. Resized and framed, with necessary sharpening for posting to TL size. Note all work done with Photofiltre.

Bonjour Robert,
I really missed your postings, I'm so happy to see those back. Like this one, perfect in composition and the subject, the ice breaker, must have been a great view to watch this vessel in the ice. You captured it perfect excellent sharp and fine colour contrast. Great posting my friend.

Hi Robert,

How could you NOT center this vessel? This is a terrific shot of this ship. Did you get to go on it too, or just view from the coast? What a terrific subject for photography. So many different elements. I like the bright red against all of the winter tones of gray and white.

Thanks for sharing, lisa

Hi Robert...there is something very special and unusual about the sharpness of your shots as well as the saturation of colors...you did a great job on this one as you do on almost all of your shots...congratulations.

Pleasant picture of a power-pack. Technically is great, with good metering and great details. Artistically, I find the tight and centered composition a bit uninspiring. A good technical image nevertheless, with pleasant contrast of the red hull against the off-white surrounding.

Ciao Robert,

Your compositions are wonderful on ice,
more so with this low level of -25 or -32.
Thank you, I am in the heat of +40 in here!
Beautiful and well composed the ship breaking ice, landscape
means that gray is a beautiful pictures of your red.
I see no restrictions on photos are centralized.
I like the theme.
Greetings!

Sergio

Good old Terry Fox!! Breaking up the ice - and what a job it must be Robert.
well composed, good colurs and a very interesting subject.
But there would be no work for it in our ports in NZ!!
Janice

I like the way the red of the hull stands out against the winter gloom.. A great pic Robert, nice and sharp too..

Hi Robert,
I always wonder how these ships can break thick ice, it's amazing and it must be interesting to be on board to watch this spectacle close and hear the ice breaking.
I like the shot, again very attractive for me.
Thanks and greetings
