[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I haven't posted any pictures for a while (I did critique a few pictures over the last couple of weeks, though), and it looks like I might not be able to post much for the next several weeks. I'm in the middle of teaching and running a month-long series of workshops for teachers and high school girls (technology and computer science), my Canon 10D got the dreaded Error 99 message for the second time in six months (it's in the shop now, getting its circuit board replaced), and I'm leaving for a twenty-day vacation in two weeks. I thought I'd post something just to keep my foot in the door.

On my last evening in Montreal a couple of months ago, I walked down to the river to take some pictures of Habitat '67, the bold housing concept created during the 1967 World's Fair. The images themselves came out okay, but the Saint Lawrence River was still a little muddy from unfreezing after the winter ice, and the reflection was dull and flat. I decided to spruce it up a bit.

I masked off the river, copied the upper part of the image, flipped it upside down and pasted it below the water line. Once it was in place, I added some water distortion with Photoshop's Ocean Ripple filter. Then I adjusted the levels for the whole image, and sharpened and resized the image before uploading.

Hi Michael.

I really like your version too! With the reflexion, that gives an incredible effect. Nice shot!

Hi Michael... NICE SHOT! Naaaaa.... GREAT SHOT! I love the clear shot! Everything is so perfect in the PP. Certainly, one of my Favs.
:)

Take care...
- Hima.

great composition, very well seen michael
very cool PP work

You fooled me BIG time, Michael! You can never get the St-Lawrence River so still!!! Then I read the notes... And it goes so well with this unique piece of architecture (Moshe Sadfie, BTW) which is all a replication of itself on the horizontal axis. Great work!

Great technique, Michael, I will definitely remember it. Your note is very informative. There appears to be a trace of banding in the sky and the frame seems a bit heavy, but it stills goes into my favorites.

Nice composition and thanks for the details on the PP technique. I wondered if Habitat was still in place - thanks for letting us see it.

Very nice, Michel ! Do you know the song Pete Seger sang 'Little boxes on the hillside' ? Made me think of it somehow. I hope your camera get fixed soon, must be horrible to get those messages ! Hope to see more of your pics after the summer break !

amazing houses, just beautiful... I think your pp is a little too perfect, it's almost brighter than the original part.

Great shot anyway...

C’est un bidonville ou de l’art moderne …
Quand la réalité rejoint la fiction et que la réflexion se joint au plaisir.
Très heureux d'avoir pu voir cette construction sous la loupe d'un photographe qui a l'œil.
Merci pour le partage.
Antonio

great shot.
