Hi Annie! wonderful FIRST try! I see a TINY bit of blowout of tones in the clouds, so here is how I do it. I start with my FIRST exposure, a little BELOW normal, levels somewhat flat and then darker and darker as I make new images. I never go brighter, always darker with pretty flat levels, so that when I clarify at the merge stage I have room to make it still look real, instead of over cooked! I love your tones here!

Ahhh - I do the opposite to Linda.. Start with a correctly metered (overall) RAW image and usually make 2 exposures up and one down from that.. I guess there are many ways to skin a cat :-)
Nice first attempt - can definitely tell that it's manipulated but of course subtlety comes with practice.. Keep 'em coming
Cheers

Hi Annie,
Very fine first HDR attempt. I can't see any signs of haloing whatsoever, and the colours/tones seem to really suit the tone mapping process in this photo. As Linda mentioned, there's some tiny blow-out on some of the clouds. It's nothing serious though, and can be taken care of by either reducing the white point, or by manually selecting it later in your normal image editing program and reducing the highlight levels in that area.
You may know this already, but when taking the initial shots for the HDR, AEB is the easiest way to do it - Which can be found under the menu in your camera. The only thing you have to worry about is getting the exposure right for the first image. The best way to take all 3-shots is to put the self-timer on so that you don't have to risk shaking the camera by clicking each shot manually (once the timer counts down to zero, it will burst all 3-shots in one go). A tripod is essential no matter what. Oh, and always keep your ISO as low as possible ;).
Or you could just make them out of a single RAW file by creating a pseudo HDR in Photomatix Pro (comes in handy for action shots when you don't have time to take more than one shot). For the most part, it looks like you have picked up the technique well. I'm no expert myself, but am more than happy to offer any tips if you need them :).
All the best, looking forward to more HDR photos from you.
TFS,
Scott.

hi Annie .. great shot with great colors and composition . well done Harout.
Bonjour Annie
Amicalement
Antoine

Hi Annie..I am playing with this program as well...for me the supersaturation is too unrealistic but with the new controls it is possible to rachet it down...I like this shot though..perfectly composed...could be an illustration for a children's book!

Hi Annie,
an excellent result - at first glance I thought this was a composite shot and that the island cliffs were sailing towards the mainland.
I used to use my tripod and take 3 or 5 images for HDR but I now take most shots in RAW format and you can convert to HDR whenever you wish - I think the results are better as there is no camera shake or movement of trees or clouds and you don't need your tripod.
Well done, I look forward to more HDR shots
cheers

Hello Annie,
Congratulations on your very first HDR image. The posted image is as always highlighted by your fine sense of composition. I can say that with or without HDR technology, or with any type of camera you will always produce high quality images. I am so glad you did not 'overcook' this. With my limited experience, I have realized that I prefer the 'exposure balance' of Photomatix as opposed to the true HDR generation. My best regards. Have a good weekend.

Bonjour Annie ,

Hi Annie,
I'm not at the level where I could tell you how to improve your HDR technique, but I did come across an article in a photographic publication that you may find very helpful & interesting. The article is about photographer Chris Alvanas & his work with HDR images, among many other subjects. If you care to,please check out his website,www.lightyearimaging.com Once into his site choose "Edge" category & you will see his HDR images . He also gives instructions on how to use HDR imaging through the purchase of a tutorial CD. Hope this information is helpful.

hi Annie,
it's amazing how the colors stand out deeply here, so clear and neat, again it looks like a painting.. it projects this surreal impression in a way.. very eye catching indeed, the color tones, the flowers in the FG, the light in the sky, so dramatic and I think this is a successful HDR and 1st attempt!! quite impressive, yes it could be a headache in the beginning but it gets smooth later especially when you see great results such as it...i totally love it...
tfs and have a great WE
