My lady in red.

Some may wonder, why F9.0 not F14? You've got the DOF to play with.
The answer is, I decided on an artsy shot. I wanted the viewer to see it's face and legs. This is the concentration point.
This is how I felt at the time and it was what I liked. Thanks for viewing.

Macro/closeup photography is challenging yet rewarding. Patience is needed as majority of the images are deleted. Try, try again and don't give up. Soon you will be addicted. It's amazing what the naked eye misses out on. Viewing creatures close in is facinating and educational at the same time. Searching for the latin name and english name is fun as well. It's all part of the process.

Perfect, just perfect.
Realy nothing to complain here, I like the shallow DOF here because the leaves make a nice green background.
Full of color, interesting crop.
A perfect 10 for me!

Beautiful macro. The contrast between the sharpeness of the body of the creature and the fuzziness of the green in the background is superb. I also like the fact that it is slightly off center. Truly fantastic details of your lady in red.

Great macro Mike and thanks for explaining your logic on the DOF - you got it just right.

Simply stunning, i've tried quiet a few macro shots with insects but like you say you have to delete alot of pics before achieving a great shot which you have done so with this one. An overall 10+. TFS

Great macro shot Mike, and your notes are sure interesting and enlightening. I'll be posting a shot of a wierd spider I just took and will appreciate your help identifying it. This shot, as are all your macros, is great. Clear, sharp and colourful. TFS .. Sam

Really great... colours are vivid, details are great, composition and POV is perfect.

You make very good macros. My camera cannot get this close, only 5cm. Even if I zoom, I never get this close.

Take care, Yan

Hello Mike,

I love this one ! It should be on TN.

Patience pays. Wonderful composition and nivce POV. Green blurred background is great. The focus on the insect is unavoidable.

Great close up Mike. Nice green background. Well done.

Boy Mike,
Very good. Sharp, showing lots of beautiful details and a nice blurred green background.
And yes I sure have deleted a awful lot of pictures myself hunting for that one perfect macro shot.

Une photo magnifique, lumière, teinte et détails sont de toute beauté. Excellent !

Great macro here, and very useful note attached.
Thanks. I am only more and more convcinced to get the 20D. My sister has it and loves it. She is TL and TE member "msadventure".
But then again it isn't always the camera it is the Eye behind it.
Great shot.
Thanks.
Sandra

Woops! Stunning capture. What a catch. And sharpness is perfect.

First and foremost - it's a stunning image, sharp, detailed and in any other way: PERFECT. But, what I liked even more is your words:

"Macro/closeup photography is challenging yet rewarding. Patience is needed as majority of the images are deleted. Try, try again and don't give up."

I myself embarked into macro photography a few months ago and not incidentially a lot of my images are flowers. Except the fact that I like them, they are so eaiser to photograph than butterflies/dragonflies who don't stand still. But, you're so right. It's extremely rewarding. Thank you for your words.

Shelly:)

yes macro is challengine one.
u did a wonderful job.
