Mantis Religiosa
The religious mantis is called this way to these insects because it remains leaning on its later appendixes and they maintain the couple of previous appendixes together, this position adopts it while this wait to its prey (this posture is as that of the humans when they pray).

The old cultures considered it a sacred or diabolical insect. And this ambivalent attitude has transformed it into a present figure in many cultures. In Rome if somebody made sick, it was believed that it was because of the look of the mantis. Among the Rumanian the legend counts that during the persecutions, the Christian -Pedro and the veteran of the church - they decided to form women like missionaries. But to protect them of the pursuit of the pagans, they forced them to cover the face with a veil and not to speak in the road with anybody. Pedro, warned by the angel, went immediately and it surprised the woman without the veil, then to punish her it transformed it into insect. The woman when seeing it arrive tried to cover the face quickly, so the veil became since mantel it was only able to be placed it on the shoulders. On the other hand, it is possible to recognize on an entire part of the African continent, the vestiges of a religion of the religious mantis, in the one that them to surrender cult to this insect identifying it as creative god, healing demiurgo, or demon of the hunt.

Great macro shot, Ninfa. Excellent note, too. I like the blue gradient background. The sharpness is not optimal, but that is always a problematic item in this kind of photography. TFS.

What an interesting photograph, it's as if the Mantis is looking in at us rather than as at it.

omg, great.

Of course a bit sharpness to the eyes and destructo of the white line between his leg and the finger would do the job of perfection. But the photo is great.
