This is the shopping mall at Costa Maya, from the ship looking toward the cruise ship pier.

Costa Maya is small tourist resort in Mexico located between Cancun and Belize. The area is generally undeveloped but has been growing quickly after construction of a large pier to accommodate cruise ships.

Costa Maya's port has a new and modern shopping mall. The mall has a central plaza with a pool and "swim-up" style bars. There are several jewelery stores and many small shops selling ubiquitous souvenir items.

Costa Maya is the closest port of access to many of the lesser known Mayan ruins in the Yucatan including Chacchoben and Kohunlich. These sites are substantially less excavated than the better known pyramids near Cancun.

The fishing village of Mahahual is a short distance south of Costa Maya. The village has soft sand beaches, grass thatched palapas, and a coral reef a short distance off-shore, as well as several bars, restaurants, and shops. A resort development called New Mahahual is being created directly inland from the port. I have included a close up of the fishing boat in the workshop.

Costa Maya is currently on the malaria watch list, which means that after visiting, persons cannot donate blood for up to one year. (Oh my, I didn't know that!!!)

Tech talk...

Not much folks, I took this photo in HQ, down sized twice, noise reductions, and sharpened unmask used. Frame and uploaded.

Thanks for stopping by...next on the agenda, Mahahual.

Hello Fran !

So this is the new gateway to the Yucatan peninsula. Great idea! It will spread a little more the tourist load from Cancun and Playa Del Carmen.

I think I see your host , and cute statue next to the left end of the gate (^_^).
Colorful post , with these bright colors. I like that you cropped the sky.
Cheers!
Robert

Wow! what beautiful sea color, that makes me want to go for a swim now. Is that the pier that accomodates the large ships?, water does not seem deep enough. At first I thought you took the pic from a small plane, cruise ship must be a fair size. Excellent POV, makes the small motor boat look small. Good sharp and colorful image and as usual good informative notes.TFS Fran

I love the colour of the water Fran. And what a modern building for the shopping Mall - the orange and white buildings sort of spoil the look of the beach with all the palms and greenery. Bit if it's what the tourists want - we'll have it.

Hi Fran,
We are back in the heat of Mexico. Wonderful capture. I like the POV with all that blue water in front of the colorful dock and shopping mall. Great sharpness and well framed. TFS
Have a nice day (^.^)
Pierre

Hi Fran. The colour of the sea reminds me of my last visit to Western Australia and the colours of the Indian Ocean in the south west of that state. Well composed, superb background detail and interesting PP work to achieve that result. Overcast sky cropped? Well done and TFS,
David

Many thanks for your comment on ‘In Training...’

Hi Fran,

To tell you the truth, I'm more impressed by the beautiful place and sea, rather than the shopping Mall... :))
Fantastic details and lighting!! Wish I was there!! :)

Very well done and TFS
Constantinos

I have the feeling to see a bridge on the party! So about the blue of the water, impossible to not see how nice is the color... Practically the most of the compo... Total inversion of my todays ride of bike... I picture great surfaces of ice! And of course i play a little in the mud :)
I enjoy the scene here... Very alive!

I like the composition where you have a good view of the pier, plus the small boat in the water. Great colours.

Hi Fran,
the color of the ocean sure is inviting, makes me want to take a swim. Great seascape, I like how you let the water take up a lot of space in this shot. Colors, scenery and composition are very nice.
